UK ISP PlusNet Cuts Unlimited Standard and Superfast Broadband Prices

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 (10:35 am) - Score 1,279
plusnet uk

The start of summer usually means cheaper broadband offers and PlusNet is no exception. The ISP, fresh from launching a revamped selection of standard (ADSL) and superfast (FTTC) broadband bundles, has yet again cut their prices with a series of new offers.

As usual customers only get the best deals if they also elect to take PlusNet’s own Phone Line Rental service, which after a recent price rise now costs from the equivalent of £12.99 per month (when pre-paid 12 months in advance) or £15.95 as a standard monthly charge. Otherwise the deals are as follows.

Unlimited Broadband and Homephone
* Typical download speeds of up to 16Mbps
* Truly unlimited usage
* Free wireless router
* Free weekend calls to UK landlines, 0845 / 0870 numbers and other PlusNet customers
* Free Activation when taking a Home Phone (normally £50)
* McAfee security
* 12 Month Contract

MONTHLY PRICE: £2.50 per month for the first 12 months (£9.99 thereafter)

Unlimited Fibre and Homephone
* Typical download speeds of up to 38Mbps (19.5Mbps upload)
* Truly unlimited usage
* Free wireless router
* Free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, 0845 / 0870 numbers and other PlusNet customers
* Free Activation when taking a Home Phone (normally £50)
* McAfee security
* 18 Month Contract

MONTHLY PRICE: £7.50 per month for the first 9 months (£14.99 thereafter)

Unlimited Fibre Extra and Homephone
* Typical download speeds of up to 76Mbps (19.5Mbps upload)
* Truly unlimited usage
* Free wireless router
* Free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, 0845 / 0870 numbers and other PlusNet customers
* Free Activation when taking a Home Phone (normally £50)
* McAfee security
* 18 Month Contract

MONTHLY PRICE: £12.50 per month for the first 9 months (£19.99 thereafter)

Take note Anytime UK Calls can also be added for an extra +£5 a month or +£7 per month if you want to add 300 anytime minutes to the top 35 international destinations. Otherwise the new promotion is expected to run until 2nd September 2014. As usual those in the most remote rural areas might have to pay more for their service, so do check first before committing.

Standalone broadband packages are available but they tend to cost extra (e.g. the entry-level unlimited broadband package has a standard price of £12.49 per month instead of £9.99 on the bundle above)

    you sure this is correct mark> as far as i know. on BTO system no such profile is optional its rather 40/2 or 40/10

    As I understand it Plusnet are now provisioning everyone on 80/20 with BTO regardless.
    Those who opt to take the lower download service of 40/20 are merely capped by Plusnet themselves on their systems at 40.

    I was surprise BT Wholesale letting Plusnet to have 40/20 as they are using 80/20 from Openreach installing from exchange to cabinet set at the higher 80Mbps but PLusnet just capped their profile at their side. But, it doesn’t make sense at all, because Plusnet have to pay BT more costing for 80/20 but how come Plusnet can afford to give customers 40/20 a 9 months saving of £67.50 plus plusnet fee to BT for 80/20 product?

      In a long term plusnet could gone bankruptcy one day by owning BT more money! Only time will tell.

      Having just checked plusnet’s company accounts online they have over £5 million in the bank, maybe they just want to burn some of that to get more customers?

      BT Wholesale aren’t letting Plusnet have 40/20, they are being paid for 80/20. The only difference is on Plusnet’s Procera traffic management kit. To BTW and Openreach it is just another 80/20 line.

  4. isnt plusnet owned by bt anyway? (but left to run as themselves?)

    I may switch to the 40/20 as it’s usually the upload speed that sucks, 4.75MB/s is plenty enough for me.

    Because the line rental price hikes are outrageous and it looks like price fixing with all the co’s moving to £16 a month rental and no lesser options.

    Primus are looking cheap again (£8.75/mo special offer):

    But the same site says beware of billing issues, personally I’d chance it for £86 saving. But they were fine when I used them and when there was a physical line problem, an engineer fixed it fast (day or two!).
