Mobile operator Vodafone UK has launched WorldTraveller, which for £5 inc. VAT extra per day will allow pay-monthly customers (including business travellers on certain price plans) to take their existing data (Mobile Broadband), voice and text allowances to a number of major destinations outside of Europe (e.g. the USA and South Africa). Calls and texts received are also free.
The WorldTraveller add-on, which works in the same way as Vodafone’s £2 per day (this will become £3 from 1st September 2014) EuroTraveller service (here), is currently available in the USA, India, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Ghana, Qatar and South Africa.

Apparently customers who want the service can opt-in by calling 5555. The service initially claims to carry no extra charge, with customers only paying for the days where they actually use their mobile. Take note that this service is only for pay-monthly tariffs and will not work on Vodafone’s dedicate Mobile Broadband packages, though Smartphone data (Tethering etc.) should be fine.
