The county of Hampshire in England can celebrate after it recently became the latest Broadband Delivery UK based Government programme with BT to complete its target of ensuring that 90% of homes and businesses can access “superfast” Internet download speeds of 24Mbps+ by the end of 2015.
The Hampshire Superfast Broadband project site states that they have thus “achieved [their] target of reaching over 54,000 premises by the end of the 2014-2015 financial year” (note: around to 59,500 should have benefitted within the wider “fibre broadband” footprint, with over 40,000 of those getting even faster speeds of 50Mbps).

As a result the total number of Street Cabinets enabled with BT’s FTTC Superfast Broadband technology in Hampshire has hit 238. But the work doesn’t stop there and a new deal has already been agreed under the Superfast Extension Programme (here), which will push superfast broadband out to another 34,500 premises (i.e. “at least” 95% of the local population) by “mid 2019 or earlier“.
According to the latest update, we should expect the first roll-out details for their Phase 2 deployment to be published sometime after September 2015. I’ll also give a quick credit to Thinkbroadband for pointing us to this update.
