Virgin Media UK Cuts 50Mbps Cable Broadband Package Price to GBP5

Cable operator Virgin Media has quietly dropped the price of their entry-level Big Connection package, which is now offering unlimited superfast broadband speeds of 50Mbps and free weekend calls from £5 per month for the first 12 months (£17.50 thereafter).

As usual the discount, which is down from the previous offer of £7.50 per month for the first 12 months, only applies when the service is bundled with phone line rental that costs an additional £16.99 per month or the equivalent of £13.66 when pre-paid for a year in advance.

Each package also includes unlimited usage (upstream traffic is managed), free setup, free online storage, a free wireless SuperHub router and included Internet security features. An 18 month contract term applies. The 50Mbps option can also be purchased without a phone service, although this costs a standard price of £28.50 per month.
