EE Hit UK Mobile and Roaming Customers with Out of Bundle Price Hike

Wednesday, Aug 24th, 2016 (7:43 am) - Score 893

Last week (17th August) EE began informing their mobile customers via a text message that, for the first time in several years, they were about to significantly hike their standard out-of-bundle charges and this will be introduced from 28th September 2016.

Out-of-bundle charges typically relate to the cost of using services beyond what your existing allowance(s) include (e.g. sending a MMS picture message), but since the bulk of EE’s subscribers take a tariff with “unlimited” texts and calls then this isn’t likely to cause too much pain for domestic consumers.

However some subscribers, especially those that roam outside of the UK (EE has also needed to adjust for the significant exchange rate fluctuations caused by Brexit), do sometimes have to pay excess charges and as such today’s news will make for grim reading. Mind you EE are by no means alone in doing this, Vodafone and others have introduced similar changes (here).

EE Statement

“We try to keep price changes to a minimum and have not changed the prices for using out of allowance UK minutes, picture messages, international minutes and texts since October 2012. We are committed to providing you with the best experience and to do this, we’re investing £1.5million in our network every day so that we can give you the very best 4GEE speeds in more places across the UK. We’re also ensuring we now answer all calls from our pay monthly customers in our UK and Ireland call centres.”

The fee for paying your bill late is also increasing from £5.00 to £7.20.
