The owner and founder of Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet, Richard Tang, has recently published an interesting new behind the scenes style video where he takes viewers on a tour around the broadband provider and explains some of their history.
The video itself is perhaps a touch on the self-promotional side. On the other hand we don’t often get to see inside such providers and in that sense it may be worth a view.
How refreshing to have a down to earth corporate blog, which tells a great story of how their business started and where it is today. It was also interesting to learn of their three values. Happy staff as the first priority is something that a lot of businesses need to adopt.
Interesting… why not customers first and staff second? What is their reasoning?

If the staff are happy and they always going to do everything to make the customer as happy as they are.
We would hope so, unless a customer requires extra attention, which means that staff may need to go out of their way to deal with them. If there is a culture of “staff first” then you may get staff prioritising themselves rather than customers.
(This is more of a philosophical discussion around working culture – not a criticism of Zen. There are obviously merits to both approaches.)
