Cityfibre has awarded construction firm Granemore Group the £39m contract to build their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network for the East Midlands (England) town of Northampton, which is being supported by UK ISP partner Vodafone.
At present Cityfibre already runs a 45km long Dark Fibre network in Northampton for local public sector sites and specific businesses, although they recently (here) started expanding this via FTTH with the aim being to reach “almost every home and business in the town” (they usually do 85%+ coverage of each city or town) by the end of 2022. The first homes will go live in early 2020.
As part of this the operator has today revealed that they’ve contracted the Granemore Group to conduct the build, which is the same civil engineering company as they’re already using in Milton Keynes. All of this forms part of their wider £2.5bn investment plan, which aims to cover around 1 million homes across 12 UK cities and towns with Gigabit capable “full fibre” broadband by the end of 2021 (Phase One) and then 5 million premises by the end of 2025 (here).

Sean McGuigan, Director at Granemore Group, said:
“It’s fantastic to be awarded a second Gigabit City build project by CityFibre. We have worked extremely closely with CityFibre since starting to build in Milton Keynes and this award demonstrates our shared ambition to create a long-term strategic partnership. With growth and predictable production levels now under our control, we can provide CityFibre with the confidence it needs to award us further deployment projects.
Northampton is now our second Gigabit City project in the region, this gives Granemore Group a fantastic opportunity to continually grow our investment within the local community with suppliers and the labour force.”
End.
