Thousands of UK new build homes across parts of the “Northern PowerHouse” region look set to gain access to a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, thanks to a new partnership between residential managed ISP ClearFibre (Telcom) and commercial connectivity provider Connectus.
The agreement will see both companies work to target, design, deliver and install a suite of services to two of the country’s largest residential developers. One of the first of those will be the Wirral Waters development of 13,000 new homes and 20m sq feet of mix used space, where Connectus are the nominated infrastructure provider.
The announcement talks about using “cutting edge technology“, which they claim has “never before been delivered in the UK to date in the residential sector,” although it doesn’t elaborate much. We have seen plenty of gigabit-capable “full fibre” networks being deployed to both new and established home developments by other operators.

Nevertheless, an initial pipeline of projects has already been prepared, which reflects a combination of contracted and non-contracted business and is said to be worth in the region of £4.2m annually over a 3-4 year period.
Paul Eaton, Chief Commercial officer of ClearFibre, said:
“ClearFibre and Connectus have a unique opportunity to bring something very different to the market that is unique, but at a time when these tools are desperately needed for Residents in today’s changing world which directly benefits the Resident, personally and professionally and indirectly the companies they work for.”
Roy Shelton, CEO of Connectus, said:
“Both our companies are very much aligned and complement each other well. Connectus have a deep passion to continually develop the products and range of Connect Protect Collaborate services we bring to the market. We are not just about connectivity, we are about end to end services and solutions for the benefit of people, families, communities and businesses not just in the North, but across the UK.
We are extremely conscious of people, jobs and their financial situation, which is why we bring very high quality products and services to people’s homes which are very, very affordable and are available from day one of moving in.”
Apparently, customers in these areas can expect to receive a choice of service speeds from 250Mbps and up to 1Gbps, although it’s not known how much these packages will cost and we couldn’t find any solid details. Despite this they do say that their services will be backed by a “stringent” Service Level Agreement (SLA).
