Customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband’s legacy capped data usage packages (e.g. Sky Everyday Lite, Broadband Lite, Broadband 12GB or SkyFibre), which earlier this year were given temporary access to an “unlimited usage” boost due to COVID-19, will now continue to benefit from this for the foreseeable future.
Many of the provider’s capped data packages haven’t been sold to new customers for several years (“unlimited” usage has been the norm for a while now) or were supplied it as part of a basic “free broadband” style promotion, usually alongside Sky’s Pay TV bundles.
Nevertheless, a fair number of existing subscribers still use these legacy packages and were thus pleased when Sky upgraded them all to “unlimited” usage during the Spring 2020, which was part of the operator’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. But that change was expected to be temporary, although the language on Sky’s “data usage allowance” FAQ page has recently be changed to make it sound a little more permanent.

Get ready to share, stream, download, work from home or connect with your loved ones – as much as you like. All of our broadband packages now have unlimited broadband data usage.
We first decided to lift data caps earlier in the year because of COVID-19. And with everyone relying on their broadband more than ever we wanted to make sure all packages had totally unlimited usage from now on.
Most of our packages were already unlimited, but if you had a package with a usage allowance (Sky Everyday Lite, Broadband Lite, Broadband 12GB or Sky Fibre), you’re now unlimited too. You don’t need to do anything; we’ve already lifted your data cap and there’ll be no change to your billing.
Sky didn’t comment but has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that the aforementioned customers will indeed continue to get unlimited data for the foreseeable future. Credits to one of our readers, Dan, for spotting the change.
