
Business focused UK ISP Connectus has announced that more than 100 companies operating out of the large Winsford Industrial Estate in Cheshire (England) can now access gigabit-capable broadband speeds after the provider designed, funded and deployed a new network to the area.
Until recently a number of business on the estate had complained that the only affordable broadband solution available to them was via Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology, which wasn’t delivering the sort of performance they all desired.
By the sounds of it Connectus has now resolved this by deploying some flavour of fibre optic based leased line service. However, we note that smaller firms often find leased lines to be too expensive, although in this case those firms will at least be able to stick with FTTC if they have lower demands.

The reality is that leased lines are a lot cheaper these days with the spread of FTTP. OK the two things are not necessarily that closely related in technology but leased prices have tumbled.
It would be an interesting update to have the rate card for the industrial estate made public. It might even interest other industrial estate owners in having their estates fibred up?
Why is this even a news item? We are in the 21st century, any business should be able to get a fibre broadband or a fibre leased line these days! This only shows how backwards this country truly is.

It was pretty disgraceful as a lot of SME time and effort was wasted working around awful connectivity. It also lead to a lot of small industrial ape states being unusable for businesses which needed a certain level of connectivity. Far sighted landlords then had to fix this themselves to be able to rent premises.

one of the BDUK projects did business parks as it first phase , it had hardly any take up, affected county coverage and reduce the overall take up of the county affecting clawback which took a number of years to recover –
