CityFibre UK has reached a new partnership with landlord and housing developer Thirteen Group, which thanks to a blanket wayleave agreement will ensure that 12,500 of their customers in Middlesbrough (North Yorkshire, England) can gain access to a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network.
The operator is currently in the process of investing £42m to deploy their new FTTP network across the town (here), supported by civil engineering firm MAP Group (UK). As usual that project forms part of their wider £4bn programme to cover 8 million UK premises across 285 cities, towns and villages – c.30% of the UK (here). The latter target is expected to be “substantially completed” by the end of 2025.
We should point out that Thirteen Group extends well beyond Middlesbrough and provides services for more than 70,000 customers across Teesside and other areas of the North East, including North Yorkshire, County Durham, and Tyne and Wear.
The project with CityFibre is thus planned to continue over a number of years and will extend beyond Middlesbrough to give customers access to full fibre services in Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton, Hartlepool and surrounding areas across the North East, including Newcastle and Gateshead.
Helen Ivison, Thirteen’s Infrastructure Project Lead, said:
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with CityFibre to give thousands of our customers the opportunity to sign up to Gigabit-speed broadband.
We’re all using technology much more these days in our daily lives, at home, work and school. We also recognise how an improved digital experience can benefit the customer journey and that’s why at Thirteen, we’ve created MyThirteen, which provides customers with a convenient way to find and manage their home online, all in one place.
We have no doubt that this exciting project will make a real difference to our customers now and those we attract in the future and we look forward to continuing this partnership as CityFibre’s build enters the surrounding towns and cities.”
End.
