Fibre optic network builder CityFibre, which is currently deploying a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover around 8 million UK premises by the end of 2025 (here), has signed a new £100m agreement to extend their existing supply deal for passive fibre optic solutions with Hexatronic.
The new 3-year framework supply agreement between the two companies builds on their original deal in 2019, which itself was worth £40m (here). Under this extension, CityFibre will continue to receive a supply of Hexatronic UK’s passive fibre optic solutions including cables, microducts, connectivity cabinets and aerial nodes.
The extension should take the operator right up to their primary build completion, although the new deal also includes an option for CityFibre to extend the contract for another two years.
Henrik Larsson Lyon, Hexatronic’s CEO, said:
“We are delighted to have retained the trust, as CityFibre’s largest supplier of passive fibre optic products, of such a dynamic and important player on the expansive UK market. We have been working closely with CityFibre as a strategic supplier over a number of years and even before as a partner on the development of passive infrastructure solutions that can help drive efficiency in their build programme.
Our market-leading FTTH products are characterised by being quick and easy to install, and we support our customers with local field support and training facilities. This continued partnership with CityFibre further strengthens our position within the rapidly expanding UK market.”
We should point out that CityFibre also has several supply deals with other companies too, such as HellermannTyton, Emtelle and the Prysmian Group. We wouldn’t be surprised to see some of those being extended in the near future too.
Are Cityfibber buying all this fibre ducting stuff just to keep it sat idle in warehouses?
