UK ISP Lightning Fibre, which is busy building a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover over 100,000 premises across parts of East Sussex in England, has today announced that they’ve begun to extend their deployment into the seaside town of Bexhill (Bexhill-on-Sea).
The operator, which is being backed by private equity firm Foresight (here), first began their build in 2019 and is currently focused on deploying across the Eastbourne and Hastings areas (here). Suffice to say that the nearby town of Bexhill always seemed likely to be their next target, although sadly it’s not known how many premises will benefit or how long the local build will take to complete.
Residential customers of the service typically pay from £29 per month for a symmetric speed 100Mbps package on a 24-month term (plus £100 one-off for the setup), which rises to £59 for their top 900Mbps package with free setup.
Ben Ferriman, Lightning Fibre Founder and CEO, said:
“It was always my intention to include Bexhill in our network expansion – connecting our Eastbourne and Hastings infrastructure to bring Full Fibre symmetric future-proofed hyper fast broadband to Bexhill. Bringing the world’s fastest car with us to celebrate the arrival of the world’s fastest broadband is the perfect way to launch our network in Bexhill. We pride ourselves on being the only locally-founded Full Fibre network headquartered in and focused on East Sussex.”
The move spells good news for local homes and businesses in the town, although it should be noted that Lightning Fibre aren’t the only gigabit-capable broadband operator in the area. Aside from a few small FTTP deployments by OFNL and FibreNest (Persimmon) on sites for new build homes, we’ve also noted that Trooli and Openreach both have plans to extend full fibre coverage into the area.
On top of that, Box Broadband (CommunityFibre) also appears to have grown a fair bit of FTTP into the town, although Openreach and Trooli seem to have the most active build plans for the next few months. Suffice to say, Lightning Fibre will be stepping into an area that’s about to become very competitive.
UPDATE 4:43pm
We’ve been informed by the operator that they will aim to cover 22,500 premises in Bexhill.

And Cityfibre
I can’t recall seeing CityFibre announcing FTTP for Bexhill, and it doesn’t show on their Phase 1 / 2 lists. Where did you see that?
Do these altnets actually believe they will get ROI with so much overbuild going on in one town
