Shortlist for the Inaugural UK Fibre Awards 2022 Event Published

UK-Fibre-Awards-2022

The inaugural UK Fibre Awards event has recently announced its first shortlist of potential winners for 2022, which lists various broadband ISPs and network builders across ten categories (e.g. Best Rural Fibre Provider, Best Urban Fibre Provider etc.). Some providers, such as Giganet, managed to be shortlisted across multiple categories.

If you’re only just hearing about the ‘UK Fibre Awards’ then you’re not alone, since it only recently appears to have popped into existence and is being backed by media and event organisation firm BPL Business Media, seemingly with CityFibre as the headline sponsor.

According to the website, the event is a “truly unique awards process which will recognise the stand-out organisations, projects, technology and investments at the heart of the UK’s booming fibre, alternative network and carrier sector growth.” But it’s unclear what makes it so “unique“, particularly since some categories are similar to those mentioned alongside other industry award events (ISPA and Connected Britain etc.).

The awards site itself provides little information on how the winners will be judged, whether there will be any technical testing, if independent judges will be used or even whether it will factor in feedback from consumers. Suffice to say, there’s a very ‘by the industry, for the industry’ style vibe to it, but hopefully we’ll learn more when the winners are unveiled on 9th June 2022 at the Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, London.

The price of attendance is £275 +vat for a single person or £2,500 for a table of ten. For that you’ll be able to enjoy a drinks reception, three-course meal, half a bottle of wine per person (only half 🙂 ?), celebrity awards presentation, entertainment & post-awards party and water and coffee (note: oxygen is not listed as a feature like water, but we assume it to be included). It probably would have been cheaper to book a meal event at the local Harvester, but what do I know.
