Virgin Media UK Offer All Broadband Only Speeds for Just GBP28
UK ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has kicked off the week by launching a different kind of discount on their standalone broadband packages – called “Solus Boost“, which essentially cuts the price of all their packages – from 100Mbps to 1Gbps – to just £28 per month for the first 6 months of service (original pricing thereafter).
As usual this offer is only intended for new customers, and they can also expect to receive an included wireless router, 18-month minimum contract term, unlimited usage, access to Virgin’s UK network of WiFi hotspots, internet security / parental controls and email.
The unique “flash sale” is set to run from today and last until Sunday 15th May 2022 at 11:59pm, but take note that the £35 one-off setup fee is still being charged for these. Despite being broadband-only plans, you can still add Virgin’s new streaming TV product – STREAM – to these at check-out, if so desired.

Aye, Vodafone are really nice with their pricing. Can’t wait for FTTP in my area so I can move to them.
Having left VM late last year for price reasons only, this offer would not tempt me back. The service was absolutely fine in my experience, the decision was solely made on price and I found haggling with their team year-in, year-out, increasingly tedious. In the end their haggling deals didn’t cut the mustard. As Paul says above, competitors are offering significant price deals right now and with alt-nets this is only likely to increase the choices consumers have. Many, many years ago I worked for NTL when the organisation relied on triple play packages to make their money since much of the TV was a loss leader and the telephone service was the money maker. These prices along with other Virgin package deals suggest the company is still taking that route rather than a single service; when customers are much less likely now to take a triple play package compared to say 20 years ago. Still, it will be interesting to see how this affects customer take-up and importantly for the coming year churn should be the more important number to watch. In practically any company, churn is the figure needing to be reduced simply down to how much it would cost to get those customers back.
And they are going to find this even harder as more and more places get FTTP and they still only offer 51mbps upload. I assume at that point they will be able to change their upload but with people locked into contracts elsewhere it might be bad for them for a short while until they can tempt people back?
I wonder how long before their whole network is FTTP based?
2028 is their target and they’re flying at the moment.
I thought all VM FTTP was new build and still RFoG.
The new FTTP is mostly RFOG.
Their are overbuilding their HFC network with FTTP that’s using XGS-PON.
ISPs especially Virgin Media operate gouging pricing practices that are now banned for insurance companies.
It is time OFCOM acted to ensure existing customers can also access the new offers & standard advertised prices.
Existing customers can access offers but you need to sign a new contract for 18 month
@peter existing customers cannot access these same discounts. Very rarely do existing customers get similar deals to new customers, and ones like these where all packages are 28 for 6 months including Gig1 is just never going to happen
This offer would not tempt me back from CityFibre FTTP. Why?
– £28 pounds for the first SIX months only! Then you end up paying their usual rates after that.
– Terrible latency on their network
– Uncompetitive upload speeds
– Poor quality routers, worst wifi quality I’ve ever encountered (yes I know you can get your own, but why spend more money on having to fix their own shortcomings?)
– Slow response to the recent latency issues, they now solely blame BQM! I experienced first hand how it affected other services including Zoom!
Since being on CityFibre FTTP via Vodafone 900 (£29 per month), I have realised how bad VM really have been! I’m seeing a great BQM graph no matter how much I load the connection up. The difference is like night and day! Even their supplied router is working much better than VM Hub 3!
VM will struggle with business in the future the way they are carrying on, they are talking about FTTP but with DOCSIS still being used from the internal coaxial run! Openreach and the alt nets are very busy rolling out the real deal whilst VM appear to be lost when it comes to strategy and keeping their existing customers happy.
VM are relying on areas where there is only the choice of Openreach copper and nothing else. That situation is rapidly diminishing in many areas whilst FTTP is rolled out at pace by other providers. That is why I recently switched!
It’s not meant to tempt anyone back, Cityfibre etc don’t cover the same level that VM does so for most it’s either Openreach or VM and in most (not all) areas where only those two are available, VM usually comes out on top by a large margin.
Example: I can get 21-36 with a guarantee of 17Mb from BT for 27.99 or I can get Gig1 from VM. Now even then MOST of the time when I renew my package (I’m on Gig1 but before I was on that) I was getting the 350Mb for £33 a month on a retentions offer. That’s only £5.01 for an additional 314Mb.
It just makes sense.
I rahter stick with my current provider Hyperoptic way cheaper 1gbps speeds and community fibre are cheap too.
My building is not Virgin Meadia enable.
Believe me, you’re not missing out with your building not being enabled for VM! It’s old hat now like Openreach copper based services.

Virgin Media’s customer service is criminal.
Their system is so corrupt you can’t ven lodge a complaint with them! The links on their website don’t work and when you try by telephone they cut you off half way.
Currently battling them over terrible line speeds of 15gbps when we should have been getting 300gbps. Was told that upgrading to 500gbps would fix the problem but of course it didn’t, now stuck in a 12 month contract paying £70 a month for dial up speeds.
Do your homework before signing up with Virgin Media, I didn’t and it’s costing me hundreds.

Eh, Vermin Media need to reform or die. These prices aren’t even that competitive, I’m paying £36/m for M500 (for the life of the contract), doubled to gig1 by Volt. It’s taken much effort to get the full speed out of the crappy SH4 using Balance-rr.
As I type this CF are digging up my street and I’ll be gone for 900mbit upload the second they are live.
Vermin Media are strongly wedded to their national pricing model so will slowly become uncompetitive in regions with altnets, which will eventually be all urban areas.
