Scottish broadband ISP GoFibre (BorderLink), which is partnered with Marykirk.com (here), has today added the small rural town and civil parish of Melrose in the Scottish Borders area to their ongoing rollout of a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in Scotland.
GoFibre started building their full fibre network last year and at the time they expected to cover 10,000 premises in the Angus and South Aberdeenshire areas, with thousands more premises in Montrose, Kelso and Coldstream also forming part of their initial deployment. More recently they’ve also added 12,000 premises across the East Lothian towns of Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick to their plan (here), which was followed by Burntisland and Cardenden in Fife (here).
The good news is that they’ve today announced another extension to include Melrose, which could connect more than 1,400 local households and businesses throughout the Scottish Borders town to their network.

Construction of a new broadband network is currently expected to begin in the town over the “coming weeks“, with the planning process already being near to completion.
Alex Cacciamani, GoFibre’s CEO, said:
“Our planning stage, ahead of any construction work commencing, has been going very well and so we intend to begin our transformative works to connect Melrose to the best digital connectivity available in September.
It’s vitally important for our shared future that we eliminate the digital divide across Scotland. Doing so will enable us all to reach our full potential, facilitating business growth and innovation as well as benefiting local communities through seamless connectivity.”
Customers of the new service can expect to pay from £36 per month for a 100Mbps package on a 24-month term with an included wireless router, which rises to £69 per month for their top 1000Mbps plan. The latter also comes with a bonus Wi-Fi extender (this can optionally be taken on other plans for just £5 per month extra).
Is this a part of Scot Gov.R100 rollout ??.
Or will it less work for BT.
These guys keep adding towns to their plans yet the ones underway are dragging on and on.
Stonehaven was originally promised for last year and now they say it won’t be finished until 2023. They have been so slow that Openreach are about to beat them to it and have fibre to my house first, thereby removing their potential market.
They are also going to be installing in Aberlady within the next year as well
Go Fibre have cancelled my order after I chased them for an update on my order.
Openreach have been busy today though putting up cables outside on a new pole put up yesterday so hopefully they might move along with fibre connection here between Tranent and Pencaitland.
