Broadband ISP 4th Utility, which is rolling out a gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to serve UK homes (SDU) and large residential blocks (MDU), has today announced the appointment of Steve Wilson to be the CEO of their new consumer business unit.
The provider, which holds an ambition to treble its customer base over the next 15 month and last year said they aimed to deploy their FTTP “service [to] another 250,000 homes over the next five years” (i.e. roughly 300,000 by 2027), intends for its new consumer business unit to encompass end-to-end customer-facing activities – from pipeline development to marketing, sales and service.
At the head of that unit will be Steve Wilson, who has held senior positions at various UK telecoms operators and is said to be a marketing and communications leader specialising in digital. His past roles have included chief digital and marketing officer at Admiral Group, digital director at BT Consumer, chief commercial officer of Plusnet, head of eCommerce at O2, and head of online at British Gas.

Steve said:
“Joining 4th Utility was such a brilliant opportunity and one I couldn’t turn down. It’s an incredibly exciting moment in the 4th Utility story right now – we are pivoting to significantly grow our customer base.
Ultimately, we want to deliver amazing customer experience in an industry not especially renowned for it. The team have been doing exactly that over the last few years and there are some solid foundations for us to build on now.”
The provider, which previously received a £25m investment from DIF Capital Partners and has opened a new office in Hale, has so far covered 40,000 premises (October 2022 figure) with their new full fibre network. But it’s unclear whether they achieved their last target of reaching 94,000 homes with their new full fibre network by the end of December 2022.
