Mobile operator Lyca Mobile, which is powered by an MVNO agreement with O2’s (VMO2) national UK network, has today announced that they’re placing a “freeze on prices” for “at least 6-months” in order to help protect their customers from the cost-of-living crisis and to provide a counter to rivals that are hiking their prices.
Most of the major mobile operators tend to hike their customer prices once every year, most recently by anything from 14% to 17.3%, although Lyca’s 30-day minimum contract terms make this less of an issue as customers can easily move if prices rise. But today’s 6-month price freeze will at least add some extra protection, even if only for a limited period.
Lyca Mobile’s plans range from just £5 for 3GB of data, to £10 for 20GB of data, or £25 for unlimited data. Almost all 30-day plans include unlimited UK minutes and texts (except the 3GB plan that has 1000 texts/mins), and many also include international minutes to over 40 destinations. Flash sales for new customers offer connectivity for as little as £1 for three months (rising to £5 after) – and “all plans are contract-free” (i.e. there’s a 30-day term).

Lyca Mobile Chairman, Allirajah Subaskaran, says:
“As households across the country face rising costs, the last thing they need is to see their mobile bills go up. But consumers can and should take action, seeking better value from their mobile providers during these uncertain times.
We know that millions of customers in the UK who are being hit with price hikes are actually out of contract. With savings being top of mind for cash-strapped consumers, we’re set to see a major shake-up in the mobile sector as customers vote with their feet and seek out new deals with companies who aren’t raising prices in what is already a difficult time for customers up and down the country.”
End.
Useless network. Good for voice calls.
4g slower than 3G.
4g and 5g for the price of 2g.

Here was I hoping Lyca would start paying their £106m taxes, or admit the £18m of loans to the Subaskarans or the £169m debt.
All this suggests is they may not be in business in 6 months.
He sounds like future Chancellor material.
Absolutely beyond useless network. Recently starting using Lyca for one of my services. Edge? I didn’t even know that still existed but I seem to be connected to that most of the time. Surely o2’s network isn’t that bad and the MVNO is just terrible?
O2 is an unusable network these days, even if you go direct…..
