Tesco Mobile UK Extend Home From Home Roaming Package

Mobile provider Tesco Mobile, which is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on O2’s UK (VMO2) platform, has announced an extension to its free “Home from Home” roaming package. The package will run until the end of 2023 for all customers travelling to any of 48 countries across Europe and beyond “at no additional cost“.

Rachel Swift, Tesco Mobile’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “As we move towards the summer months, we know how helpful it is to stay connected when abroad. That’s why, for the whole of 2023, our customers can continue to tap into their UK allowances for free in 48 destinations in Europe and beyond – so they can roam and relax.”

The move is perhaps not a huge surprise because Tesco harnesses O2’s national network, and they’re the only primary network operator to still be offering EU roaming at no extra cost. Speaking of which, O2 hasn’t yet indicated that free EU roaming will end after 2023, thus it’s possible that Tesco may be able to extend again in the future.

Well done tesco, admittedly o2s network is shocking due to over capacity and lack of investment. O2s network was already creaking before the merger with virgin media but keeping roaming is good thing

Give the markets free reign and you can see what happens with roaming. Inside the EU the networks were beholden to the rules and regulations once out the golden goose was back.

3,Vodafone and ee hold your heads in shame taking advantage by ripping off customers. Other smaller networks offer free roaming, smarty strangely a wholly owned subsidiary of three and iD also offer roaming

They apparently started investing in 5G rollout. At least in Cambs. I am getting now up to 120Mbps in 5G compared to 6Mbps in 4G before upgrade.

Nice, it includes Switzerland and Monaco which are absent from O2’s free roaming offering.

Not true. There are two roaming plans in O2, cheaper plans having Europe only have both Switzerland and Monaco included: https://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-monthly/roaming-in-europe
There is another option including 75 destinations across the world.

Switzerland and Monaco are available with O2 PAYM but not PAYG:

02 rubbish I’m quite to pay over the odds from EE as better 4G+ in my area and I haven’t tried EE roaming as I haven’t been abroad since 2012 .

It is getting better with 5G rollout. I am traveling to EU 2-3 times a year so moving from O2 is a no go for me.

02 is absolutely useless for data at the moment. Would rather have to pay when EU and have useablle service on UK

That’s nothing to do with roaming and everything to do with lack of investment on part of VM02, eg the reason why Tesco Mobile, Giff Gaff and O2 PAYG still don’t have wifi calling or 4G calling is nothing to do with the technical side and everything to do with the fact that they simply do not want to invest in upgrading their network.

You could continue to pay though the nose for VMO2 to get a reliable service and they still won’t be investing as much as the others eg Three or EE.

Tesco Mobile WiFi calling is working on both of our Samsung phones.
