Mobile network operator EE (BT) has today launched a new console (video gaming) trade-in service that offers cashback for old gaming hardware. On top of that, they’ve also launched a new range of PC gaming packages featuring premium laptops, which are designed to complement their 4G and 5G (mobile broadband) plans.
Firstly, the new trade-in service enables EE’s customers to exchange “select consoles” – from brands such as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo – to securely refurbish or recycle them for cash, depending on the condition of the device they trade in. For example, a regular Nintendo Switch may fetch £88, while a Microsoft Xbox One 1TB could get you £34. But in both cases you’d probably get more via eBay.
Next we have the new laptop bundles, which provide existing EE mobile customers with Xbox Games Pass Ultimate, a Gamers Data Pass and Video Data Pass, as well as Roam Abroad and Microsoft 365 add-ons – all for £60 a month on a 24-month plan. The bundles come with a range of PC gaming laptops starting from just £10 upfront (more brands are due to be offered over time):

Finally, the operator will also be launching a new Nintendo Switch OLED bundle that includes ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ game, 24 months access to Nintendo Switch Online along with an EE Gamer’s Data Pass and Video Pass on a £20 per month plan with a one off £10 up-front fee from May 12th.
Shame on you. I used to believe ispreview had some integrity. If you truly are an IT expert/consultant then you know as well as I do that this is nothing but overpriced trash. A “gaming” laptop with 8gb of system memory? That’s the bare minimum to run win11 let alone gaming on that. A £150 xbox series s has 10. These are low end gaming machines that are extortinatly over priced by a mile. This article should have been a warning to people, not a sales opertunty. I say again, shame on you.
That’s a bit harsh and not really ISPreview’s fault.
Paying for a laptop on a monthly finance package is always going to be expensive. It’s a useful news item even if I’m not likely to buy one.
And comparisons to the XBox are not really direct given that the Series S has 8GB ram on a 128bit bus alongside 2GB on a measly 32bit bus, and uses it’s RAM for gpu framebuffer as well as system memory. The laptop with a 3060 in it also has 6GB of Video RAM.
8GB is low for 2023 gaming but you’re not maxing out settings on a mobile 3060 anyway. The top laptop is definitely a decent gaming laptop leaving aside the fact that Samsung elected to only offer 16GB in the UK rather than 32GB as in the US.
@rich
That’s fair enough, and maybe I was being a little too harsh, I just hate to see things like this promoted as “good” deal. You said yourself you would be unlikely to buy one, why? Because you know better the same as I do. Not everyone has the knowledge to make informed decisions which is why places like ispreview exist, and when I see things like this it angers me that some poor person is actually going buy that.
Of course anything on finance will be a little more expensive, interest is expected but this isn’t acceptable by anyones standard, those overall prices are extortionate.
EE are rubbish over priced crap you pay less from a catalogue or on Facebook. And when you sell them your things they give you penny’s. And who says when they buy it month or two down the line it breaks . Like cash converters wouldn’t give that mob the time of day both companies are rip offs
