Customers of broadband ISP Virgin Media’s (VMO2) various Pay TV platforms may like to know that the UK operator has finally added Apple TV+ to their Virgin TV 360 and STREAM boxes. On top of that, customers of the STREAM service have also just gained access to 7 “new” linear channels (already available on TV360).

The addition of Apple TV+ to Virgin’s primary TV platforms is long overdue (most of their rivals have already added it), although there is a caveat in that it will not be extended to their old TV set-top-boxes, such as those based on TiVo. The change comes after Apple TV hit customers with a £2 price hike last week – going from £6.99 to £8.99 per month in the UK.

NOTE: New Virgin TV and O2 mobile customers are able to enjoy 3 months of Apple TV+ free when they sign-up to the service via Priority, either online or on the Priority app.

As for STREAM, the new channels being added – at no extra cost – include: Legend (Channel 149), PBS (Channel 187), HGTV (Channel 191), TalkTV (Channel 606), Bloomberg (Channel 609) and CNBC HD (Channel 613). Customers paying extra for Virgin’s Essential Entertainment plan will also get access to Crime + Investigation (Channel 133).

David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at VMO2, said: “Virgin TV is the home of great entertainment with all the must-have channels, apps and on demand shows we know our customers love. With Apple TV+ now available on Virgin TV 360 and Stream, our customers can enjoy even more unmissable shows and movies all in one place.”

When is virgin going to expand offerings in the other direction and introduce a streaming app for their channels etc that can be installed on the AppleTV

In other liberty global markets they seem to do this. Ziggo in the netherlands has the Stream/360 platform available through an app plus cloud recording. It seems to come down to content rights not actual development, i don’t know why the UK is more awkward than the rest of Europe but it seems it.

Well the sky go app on appletv is low quality.

If it did 4k I’d use it more than the q boxes.

Streaming is the future for both sky & virgin.

They both need to win against the likes of Amazon/netflix/disney.

Not used glass or stream but if they aggregate all the others well then they own the Platform & have a chance.

Recent appletv update 17.2 introduces a huge improvement, much better navigation and discovery.

Navigation and discovery like a tv guide will attract punters to the platform etc.
