The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of broadband and mobile giant Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2), Lutz Schüler, has today announced that he will be temporarily stepping back from his role following a diagnosis of prostate cancer. The operator’s current CFO, Patricia Cobian, will step into his role for the next 4 to 8 weeks.
“Following a routine health check and a series of tests, our CEO, Lutz Schüler, has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully, this has been caught in the early stages, his prognosis is very positive, and he’s expected to make a full recovery following surgery in the coming days … Understandably, Lutz needs to take some time to focus on his health and recovery,” said the operator’s announcement.
ISPreview wishes to echo VMO2’s board in wishing Lutz a speedy recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back to his usual self in the near future. VMO2 also used the announcement to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage men to regularly get checked by their GP or health provider – see Prostate Cancer UK and NHS: Prostate cancer.
