Chameleon Technology has just become one of the first to provide a Virtual WAN (VWAN) solution to help resolve the problems that over 350,000 hard-to-reach UK homes have with Energy Smart Meters, which sometimes struggle to send data back to suppliers via their mobile networks. The new solution will instead use your home broadband (WiFi) service.

The Stop Killing Games group, which is a consumer campaign that seeks to preserve video games after they are taken offline, has joined with a number of global rights respecting organisations to create a sister campaign called Stop Killing the Internet. The aim is to defend the open internet against policies and practices that “impose surveillance, exclusion and excessive centralised control” in the name of online safety.

Clevedon-based broadband ISP Glide Group has announced that they’ve significantly extended their existing relationship with the university of King’s College London, which previously covered providing internet connectivity to student accommodation and campus-wide guest Wi-Fi. The communications provider will now also deliver a resilient, high-capacity managed Wide Area Network (WAN).

Streaming platform provider Roku has reached an agreement that will see it being acquired by Fox Corporation in the USA for £16.4bn ($22bn) – reflecting a mix of cash and Fox stocks. The strategic move is largely designed to scale Fox’s digital advertising and content distribution in the US market, but it may eventually have impacts on Roku UK too.

Communications provider Clarus Networks has this morning announced that they’ve reached an agreement to become an authorised reseller of the Amazon Leo (Project Kuiper) service, which reflects a huge constellation of ultrafast broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) – available to the UK and globally.

Comparison service Switchity has taken Ofcom’s recently released Spring 2026 Connected Nations data report (our summary) and turned it into a simple but useful map of full fibre (FTTP) broadband coverage across the United Kingdom, including devolved constituencies (781 seats) and all 361 local authorities.

The UK telecoms and internet content regulator, Ofcom, has published a revised guidance document on network resilience, which was first published in 2024 (here) to give broadband, mobile and other digital network providers greater clarity on how they can “reduce the risk of network outages“. The new update clarifies their stance on power backup for mobile cell / mast sites.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has today announced that they’ve switched-on their next-generation 5G Standalone (5GSA / 5G+) mobile broadband network across more of Suffolk (England), which is said to reach more than 760,000 residents and businesses across 434 towns and villages.

The UK telecoms regulator has today proposed to give other operators access to harness the 2GHz radio spectrum band for Mobile Satellite Services (MMS), such as to support Direct-to-Device (DtD) solutions for connecting 4G and 5G Smartphones. Separately, they’ve also proposed to make more spectrum available for Earth Station in Motion (ESIM) satellite terminals on ships and aircraft.

Broadband provider NuFibre (formerly Yayzi) has this morning become the latest retail ISP to sign a deal that will enable them to harness AllPoints Fibre Networks‘ (APFN) aggregated wholesale platform (aquila) of full fibre networks. The ISP will now be able to sell packages across a range of high-speed networks.

The member‑owned and not-for-profit London Internet Exchange, which handles a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via around 900 members (broadband ISPs, mobile operators etc.), have announced that they’ll launch LINX Metro Resilience on 1st July 2026 to give members access to mirrored services for less on LON1 and LON2.

The Conservative MP for Tonbridge, Tom Tugendhat, has accused mobile and broadband operators EE, O2 and Vodafone (Vodafone and Three UK) of delivering mobile signals in parts of London that are “worse” than he got in Kabul ten years ago and of operating a “near monopoly“, which he said meant they had “no incentive to improve“.

Mobile and internet provider giffgaff, which initially launched their full fibre broadband packages via nexfibre’s national network in September 2025 (here), has confirmed to ISPreview that new customers in many Fibre Up (Project Mustang) areas on Virgin Media’s national FTTP (XGS-PON) network can now also take their packages.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has begun inviting broadband ISPs (CPs) to help test a new ‘Standard‘ install process for their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) lines, which will go beyond the existing method that largely runs an optical fibre cable into your home and then connects that up to an internal Optical Network Terminal (ONT / optical modem).

Business communications and broadband provider Exponential-e has been awarded a 5-year Wide Area Network (WAN) Services contract by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) in England. The deal will see the ISP deliver and manage a modernised Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) across more than 200 sites throughout the county.
