The UK telecoms regulator has published its latest Q2-2013 customer complaints report and reveals which of the largest fixed line broadband, telephone, mobile and pay-tv providers have caused the most annoyance for consumers. Happily the overall level of complaints, especially for EE and TalkTalk, has fallen.

A new report from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee has taken a broadly pro-enforcement line on tackling Internet copyright infringement (piracy) and called for the much-delayed 2010 Digital Economy Act (DEAct) system of Warning Letters from broadband ISPs to be implemented at “far greater speed” than planned.

The £25 Million Superfast Essex project, which aims to make BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network available to “around” 87% of premises by the end of summer 2016, has today become the next to publish an indicative map of its Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) rollout.

The Leicestershire County Council (LCC) in England has today become the latest Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) project to publish a typically vague map of the schemes expected “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) coverage, which aims to reach “around” 95% of the region by March 2016.

Mobile operator EE (4GEE) has today expanded the coverage of its 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband network to an additional 12 towns around the United Kingdom, which takes the total to 117 towns and cities.

Customers who take their phone service from Sky Broadband (BSkyB) will be displeased, if perhaps not surprised (every other major ISP has already announced a rise), to learn that the price of Sky Line Rental will increase from £14.50 a month now to £15.40 from 1st December 2013.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which works alongside the House of Commons to examine public expenditure, has today published its final report into the £1.2bn Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) scheme and it accuses the government of allowing BT to build a “quasi-monopolistic position which it is exploiting by restricting access to cost and roll-out information“.

BTOpenreach has announced that its FTTP on Demand (FoD) product, which could eventually make their “ultra-fast” 330Mbps (30Mbps uploads) capable fibre optic broadband ISP technology available to homes and businesses via their slower FTTC lines, will become available from a further 18 UK telephone exchanges by the end of this month and reach a total of 303 next year.

A new survey from mobile security firm AdaptiveMobile has boldly claimed that 51% of free wireless internet (WiFi) hotspots in the United Kingdom allow access to content of an adult nature, which is despite the study being based off a tiny sample size.

A huge fire that began on Friday morning at the JBJ Business Park on Northampton Road (England), which took place at a PoP near to the Blisworth Telephone Exchange, has resulted in a major loss of local broadband Internet connectivity. It has also affected telecoms services to 16 other exchanges in the region.
