Vodafone Pro II UltraHub UK Router 2022

Mobile operator and broadband ISP Vodafone UK has this morning launched a new internet security service for their Pro II home broadband packages “at no extra cost“, called ‘Secure Net Home’, which is a combination of digital security and parental controls (filtering) that can be used on more than 150 connected devices in the home.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has today announced that they’ve deployed “cell sleep” technology across their UK 4G (mobile broadband) network, which they “anticipate” could deliver total energy savings of up to 4.5m KWh per year – reducing both their demand on the local grid and helping to cut costs at a time of high electricity prices.

The Milton Keynes-based Complete Technology Group (CTG), which is a UK landlord advisory service that also runs Complete Fibre (i.e. they install full fibre broadband infrastructure into large residential buildings / MDUs), has announced that it will “withdraw its current service offer” from the market over the “coming months“.

Overall, broadband speeds have continued to improve, albeit not without some surprises.

Some of Vodafone’s UK customers have questioned the mobile network operator’s claim that their inclusive roaming feature comes at “no extra cost”, particularly after a stealthy 22p call fee was introduced. But you’d have to dig deeper into their website to find it and the charge doesn’t apply to everybody.

Early adopters of SpaceX’s ultrafast and low-latency Starlink broadband service, which is powered by a mega constellation of small satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), are starting to be invited to help test out the internet provider’s new WiFi integrate Mini Dish (terminal) hardware and Mini Roaming service add-on. But the kit doesn’t come cheap.

As part of this, they’ve just joined the Fibre Cafe connectivity aggregation platform.

Low-cost UK mobile operator iD Mobile (Currys), which harnesses Three UK’s national 4G and 5G network via a virtual operator (MVNO) agreement, has announced that they’re offering sports fans heading to the Euros in Germany, and the Olympics in Paris, unlimited free roaming data (mobile broadband) for the duration of the events this summer.

Mobile operator Three UK has revealed that they’re preparing to launch a new “Go Roam Around the World Extra” service, which will enable customers to access their UK allowances (Fair Usage Policy applicable) in “92 new destinations” and all for an additional daily roaming charge of £7.

UK ISP Zen Internet today says they’ve become the first broadband wholesaler to offer the latest 1.2Gbps and 1.8Gbps download speed capable packages (uploads of 120Mbps) over Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network. But the announcement doesn’t say precisely when Zen’s own retail customers will be able to order it.

Ofcom has just confirmed that they will revoke the current mobile operator licences – held by EE (BT), Three UK and O2 (Virgin Media) – for the unpaired part of the 2100MHz band (1899.9 – 1920MHz) by 3rd April 2029, which was originally auctioned off in April 2000 to support the rollout of 3G mobile (mobile broadband) networks.
