Hull-based network builder and broadband ISP KCOM, which is currently busy expanding their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to more of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (England), has this week selected Ricoh UK to help deliver their £17m copper to fibre phone network switchover.

Mobile network operator and broadband ISP Vodafone UK has today added a second social broadband tariff for those on state benefits (e.g. Universal Credit), which is called ‘Fibre 2 Essentials‘ and costs a bit more than their existing ‘Essentials Broadband‘ plan, but will give you faster speeds of up to 73Mbps.

Broadband ISP BeFibre has today announced that their new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is being built by sister company Digital Infrastructure (DI), has finally gone live for 12,000 “residents” (coverage) in the Lancashire (England) town of Skelmersdale.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) today claims to have launched a “game changer” new Ethernet product – OSA 100G Single (Optical Spectrum Access), which is designed to provide businesses or broadband ISPs with a dedicated, secure and always-on 100Gbps fibre optic data link that comes at a fairly attractive price point.

Fern Trading-backed UK ISP Giganet (Cuckoo) has today announced that they’ve completed the first phase of their £250 million deployment of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which aims to reach poorly served homes and businesses across parts of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire in England.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has today announced that they’ve begun to deploy Ericsson’s new single Interleaved AIR 3218 antenna, which aims to increase the mid-band (radio spectrum) capacity of their 5G (mobile broadband) network and without creating any additional antenna footprint at their various network sites.

As expected, BTSport’s Pay TV service has today officially been rebranded to TNT Sports throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. The move follows last year’s deal between broadband giant BT and Warner Bros. Discovery, which resulted in a 50:50 Joint Venture (JV) company between BT Sport and Eurosport UK.

A new report from the Digital Connectivity Forum (DCF), an industry think-tank, has found that UK’s rollout of gigabit-capable broadband and 5G mobile connectivity would benefit from improvements in communication, collaboration and consistency between local authorities and the telecoms industry.

Network operator CityFibre has apologised to their business connectivity users in Leeds (Yorkshire, England) after their attempt to replace an old 288f fibre joint cable, which was due to be upgraded to 432f, resulted in a “significant number” of customers (e.g. Dark Fibre and Ethernet services) being hit by connectivity problems.

Ofcom has proposed to tweak how it calculates one of Openreach’s regulated Quality of Service (QoS) standards for Ethernet and Dark Fibre repairs, which would replace the current “on-time repair” target with a “mean time to repair” target. The change reflects the fact that the operator’s performance has improved, not worsened.
