UPD ISPreview Updates UK ISP Listings and Adds Superfast Broadband Section

ISPreview.co.uk has today completed a big update for all of the internet providers in our database and also added a new Superfast Broadband category to our UK ISP Listings system. Furthermore we’ve revamped the listings front page to display more information and be friendlier to Tablet users.

No Surprise as Wales UK Award GBP425m Superfast Broadband Contract to BT

The Welsh Government (WG) has today surprised nobody by awarding its £425m contract for the Next Generation Broadband Wales tender to BT. But of course it would as the telecoms giant has been the only bidder since January 2012 (here) when rival Fujitsu UK “voluntarily” withdrew due to the “risk levels“.

OECD Ranks UK 8th in its Fixed Broadband Rankings of 34 Countries

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which includes 34 countries that claim to support democracy and a market economy, has ranked the UK 8th in its latest Q4-2011 fixed wired broadband rankings, with 33.3 subscribers per 100 inhabitants. But we do poorly in other areas.

The often outspoken boss of business ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP), Adrian Kennard, has criticised BTOpenreach’s engineers today for trying to sell one of its customers a BT-Infinity (FTTC) HomeHub3 router while being paid to fix a separate problem and sometimes refusing to fix faults unless one is present.

Superfast Broadband Available to 60% of UK Homes but Low Uptake Remains

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has released its annual 2012 Communications Market Report (CMR), which covers almost every conceivable variable of the UK’s media and telecom industries. In particular it reveals that 60% of UK homes can now access superfast broadband ISP services (up from 53% a year ago) but uptake is still low.

Virgin Media UK Fails to Get Sky Totally Unlimited Broadband Claim Banned

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has rejected an attempt by Virgin Media to have rival Sky Broadband’s claim of offering a “totally unlimited broadband” package banned from its TV, press and website promotions. Meanwhile Sky succeeded in having several adverts for Virgin’s TiVo service banned.

ISP TalkTalk Spends GBP200k to Upgrade Broadband in West Norfolk UK

Budget internet and phone operator TalkTalk (AOL) has reportedly spent £200,000 on an upgrade of their unbundled broadband (LLU) services at several telephone exchanges in West Norfolk, which includes Middleton, Terrington St Clement, Hunstanton and Heacham.

UPD Sky UK Switch On New Broadband Television and Film Service NOW TV

BSkyB (Sky Broadband) will tomorrow switch-on its new web-based internet TV and Film (video streaming) service, NOW TV, which aims to challenge Netflix and LOVEFiLM by making the media giants huge library of content available via a “wide range of broadband-connected devices” (computers and smartphones etc.).
