Vodafone and Three UK Update on Progress of Joint Network Sharing

Mobile operator VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) has provided a progress update on their work to implement a new Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN), which is one of the first big benefits of the recent merger (here and here) – allowing 27 million customers to roam across both networks at no extra cost (whichever one provides the best signal in your location).

The BBC’s Controller of Digital Transition, Helen Burrows, has confirmed that the corporation is “exploring the idea” of building its own UK set-top-box device to support the new broadband-based live TV streaming service, Freely, which until recently lacked any support among existing steaming boxes and sticks.

This appears to have occurred after one of the few primary shared masts in the area went partly offline during stormy weather.

Ofcom have today published their latest quarterly (Q1 2025) study of UK consumer telecoms complaints, which names TalkTalk as attracting the most negative feedback from customers for fixed broadband, while O2 took the most heat for Mobile and Virgin Media were put on the naughty step for Pay TV services.

A new survey of broadband ISPs by Telegraph readers has handed out awards across several categories to Sky Broadband, EE and Plusnet, with the latter scooping wins across three categories. But neither BT, Vodafone, Virgin Media nor TalkTalk were deemed good enough to win anything, which is despite Virgin technically being the fastest provider.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk Publish UK Accounts to Reveal Surge in Losses

In a perhaps unsurprising development, the TalkTalk Group finally published their annual accounts yesterday and revealed that they made a statutory loss before tax of £465m for the year ended 28th February 2025 (up from £153m last year). The company also lost 420,000 UK broadband customers, leaving them with a group total of 3.2 million.
