Government Seeks Views and Experiences of UK Rural Broadband UPDATE

The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE), which is collaborating with the UK Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) team within DCMS, has launched a new survey that seeks views and experiences of rural broadband connectivity from small and medium-sized businesses (SME) present in such areas.

Iskratel Starts Supplying FTTP Broadband Kit for the UK Market

Broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today joined the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), which is a think-tank that advises the UK Government on various related areas of policy. British-registered space company OneWeb has today announced a new agreement to “resume” launches of their ultrafast low-latency broadband satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) by harnessing rockets (e.g. the Falcon9) from SpaceX, which is the owner and operator of arch rival Starlink. The first launch is expected this year.

CityFibre has announced another big £300m investment boost to help support the expansion of their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network. The new funding has come from the Abu Dhabi government’s Mubadala investment fund, which has already put £500m into the operator.

Consumer magazine Which? have published a partial summary of the results from their first biannual survey of the best and worst UK internet providers for 2022, which names Zen Internet as the best overall provider for the seventh consecutive year – delivering a customer satisfaction score of 74% (9% more than the next nearest ISP).

BT Continues to Dominate Public Sector Telecoms in Wales
