First Customers Live on New BeFibre UK FTTP Broadband Network

The first broadband customers on ISP BeFibre‘s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is being built across parts of the UK by network operator Digital Infrastructure, have today gone live in the Essex (England) town of Brentwood – one of their original build locations.

A new scheme – the Dryden project – has been started in one of Sheffield’s most disadvantaged areas, which will see partners work together to help tackle digital poverty by connecting up 360 homes on a council estate in Southey Green to FTTP broadband – using this as a platform to help train new engineers from the local community.

Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 Put 4G and 5G on London Underground

Mobile and broadband providers Vodafone and O2 (VMO2) have today become the last two major UK network operators to reach a special deal with infrastructure firm BAI Communications (BAI), which will enable them to deploy 4G and 5G based mobile services across the entire London Underground (stations and tunnels).

2022 H1 – UK Coverage of Gigabit Broadband Nears 70 Percent

The latest independent biannual summary of UK broadband coverage for H1 2022 has estimated that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have boosted their reach to 37.61% of premises (up from 30.23% in H2 2021) and 69.24% are within reach of “gigabit” speeds (up from 65.22%). But the results vary around England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland.

The North Somerset Magistrates Court has found broadband ISP and UK network builder Jurassic Fibre guilty of three offences related to their street works, which stems from their roll-out of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to 500,000 premises (30 towns and villages) in South West England by 2025.

A new study of job listings on employment hunting site Indeed claims to have identified the top 25 UK industries most in need of workers, which among other things reveals that the telecommunications (broadband, Ethernet and mobile etc.) sector ranks 13th overall with 3,352 job listings.
