Full fibre UK network builder Netomnia, which plans to make their 10Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network available to 1 million UK premises by 2024 (here), appears to have added a number of new rollout locations to their website over the past month or so.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has this week confirmed that their new CityFibre and Openreach based ‘Future Fibre‘ packages, which offer average top speeds of up to 506Mbps via Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology, have now become available to homes in both Bournemouth (Dorset) and Doncaster (South Yorkshire).

Broadband ISP BT UK has informed us that their BTSport TV streaming service will make the 2021 UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League football finals “available for everyone in the UK to watch for free,” including via their YouTube channel if you’d rather not install the app.

Hull-based UK broadband ISP KCOM, which was gobbled up by Macquarie Infrastructure for £627m in 2019 (here), appears to have sold their off-net Eclipse Internet base to the Global 4 Group for an undisclosed sum. By the looks of it the provider will now make a return under the Eclipse Broadband name.

Openreach (BT) has published the first Draft Reference Offer for their second stab at an Ofcom regulated Dark Fibre Access (DFA) product, which gives rival UK network operators and broadband ISPs physical access to harness existing fibre optic cables to run leased line style services. But the new solution is more restrictive.

Wholesale communications provider SIMWOOD, which supplies UK businesses and broadband ISPs, has launched a new residential VoIP product that’s designed to help Alternative Network (AltNet) providers offer their customers an alternative to old analogue copper phone line services.

Rural focused UK broadband ISP Gigaclear has begun a new phase of network expansion in their existing deployment areas, which will see their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service being extended into some places that they’d initially missed (infill). One of the first towns to benefit will be Chipping Norton in West Oxfordshire.

As expected the UK Competition and Markets Authority has today given their final clearance, without remedies, for cable broadband and TV provider Virgin Media (Liberty Global) and mobile operator O2 (Telefonica) to complete their £31bn merger (50:50 Joint Venture). A major full fibre and 5G rollout boost is anticipated.

Business focused broadband ISP and technology provider, Wavenet (Wavenet Group Holdings Limited), has today become the subject of a majority acquisition by Macquarie Capital for an undisclosed sum, which it’s hoped will help the operator to continue its positive trend of future growth.

The CEO of mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics, Kevin Hasley, has given his support to the Government’s proposed rule changes (here), which among other things will allow mobile operators to build taller 30 metre masts in order to boost rural 4G and 5G coverage. But he warns that such towers will need more data capacity.

The CEO of Vodafone, Nick Read, has reportedly said they are considering becoming an investment partner for BT Group’s £15bn rollout of gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology (here), which is currently aiming – via Openreach – to cover 25 million UK premises by December 2026.

A few years ago the UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, took the decision to licence exempt certain “mobile phone repeaters” for indoor and in-vehicle (low gain) use (here), yet today only the kit from Nextivity (Cel-Fi) is known to officially meet their requirements. But their new proposals could be about to change all that.

Mobile operator Three UK has today issued a progress update on their various 4G and 5G (mobile broadband) network upgrades, which among other things reveals that they’ve now added their 1400MHz band to boost 4G speeds to over 1900 sites and have introduced a new anti-SPAM filter to protect text (SMS) messaging.

UK ISP Giganet (M12 Solutions) has today announced that they’ve started to build their own gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to 300,000 premises across poorly served parts of Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and West Sussex, which is being backed by a £250m investment from Fern Trading.

People connecting to KCOM’s gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire will be pleased to note that the ISP will today launch a new range of packages with faster download and upload speeds. The standard prices have also been tweaked (some are cheaper, some are not).

The ITS Technology group, which builds and manages a number of full fibre broadband networks across the UK, has told their partners that the operator will install on-net lease lines to customers in 15 working days or less. If they fail then the operator will give away 3 months of connectivity for “free.”

After a bit of a delay, CityFibre has confirmed that their local civil engineering partner, MAP Group (UK), has finally started work to rollout a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across the large North Yorkshire (England) town of Middlesbrough – costing £42m.
