UK ISP iDNET has today announced that they’ve reduced some of the prices across their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and SOGEA (data-only FTTC / VDSL2) based broadband packages, which appears to be occurring at the same time as a subtle company rebrand and a major overhaul of their website.

ISP ClearFibre (Telcom Group), which is focused on helping to connect UK homes in the private rental sector to “full fibre” broadband, has announced that they’ve chosen Nokia’s XGS-PON technology to support their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) rollout. Xantaro’s network service integration solutions will also be used.

A new network operator and ISP called Lit Fibre has launched today with an aspiration to deploy their own 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across 500,000 UK homes by 2026, albeit starting with several small to medium-sized towns in Wiltshire (England).

The Scottish Government (SG) has today named 15 islands under the contract for LOT 1 (North Scotland and the Highlands) of their £579m Reaching 100% (R100) project, supported by BT (Openreach), that will gain access to faster broadband ISP speeds via new subsea fibre optic links.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has confirmed that, over the course of the next year, it will begin a review of the existing Net Neutrality rules (i.e. these ensure no serious blocking or slowing of access to legal websites or internet services by broadband ISPs and mobile operators). The move follows a call by BT for greater flexibility.

The Government’s £2.52bn Superfast Broadband Programme (SFBB) has so far helped to extend 24-30Mbps+ capable UK ISP networks to 5,327,128 extra premises since 2012 (up by 33.9K in H2 2020 vs 62.7K in H1 2020) – about 440,000 (our estimate) of these are FTTP – and take-up data to December 2020 shows strong demand.

One of TalkTalk’s UK broadband ISP customers, who asked to remain anonymous, has criticised the provider for being “staggeringly uninterested” after he reported a security flaw, which persisted for the best part of a week and enabled him to see the private personal account details of a different subscriber.

Full fibre UK broadband ISP Jurassic Fibre has today announced that one of the first towns in Dorset (England) to benefit from their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network will be Sherborne in the north west of the county, which is home to around 10,000 people.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme has today issued a progress update on their new Phase 2 contracts with ISPs Airband, Wessex Internet and Truespeed, which are worth a combined £80m (including £23.6m of public investment) and aim to improve broadband coverage to 56,396 premises (mostly rural areas).

The Government has confirmed that EE (BT), O2, Three UK and Vodafone yesterday signed a “key agreement” as part of the £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project, which sets out a contract for how the four operators will work together to build new sites that deliver 4G based mobile broadband coverage across “total not spots.”
