ASA Ban TalkTalk UK ISP Adverts for Misleading Better WiFi Claims

Budget ISP TalkTalk has become the third broadband provider this year to have several adverts banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over misleading claims about the WiFi performance of their bundled router hardware, which occurred after a complaint by BT prompted the watchdog to investigate.

Cityfibre’s £35m investment to upgrade and extend their Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in the south coast UK city of Bournemouth (Dorset), which is being supported by ISP partner Vodafone UK, appears to be moving up a gear this month with work starting in areas north of Wallisdown Road.

Hampshire-based UK business ISP Giganet has today launched their own take on Cityfibre’s new Flex Ethernet product, which for £149 +vat per month will give you a guaranteed rate of 200Mbps (symmetric) that can burst to 1Gbps “on-demand” and with “zero additional charges” (provided there’s enough spare capacity).

UK Slowest as OpenSignal Tests Early 5G Mobile Broadband Speeds

Crowd-sourced analyst firm OpenSignal has today published the first results from their initial real-world benchmarks of 5G based mobile broadband networks across 8 countries (i.e. those that have launched the service). The highest maximum speeds were seen by 5G users in the USA (1815Mbps), while the UK scored the lowest (569Mbps).
