The latest survey of 1,139 ISPreview.co.uk readers has revealed that nearly all receive ISP marketing mail through their letter boxes at home, but some suffer significantly more junk than others.

BTOpenreach has told ISPreview.co.uk that their premium “ultrafast” 330Mbps capable Fibre-on-Demand (FoD / FTTPoD) broadband service has now become available for all exchanges in Wales (albeit only for those who can already receive an FTTC line), but you still can’t order it.

TrueSpeed Communications (formerly Wansdyke Telecom), which earlier this year pledged to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable pure fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network to parts of rural North East Somerset and possibly Wiltshire, has announced that Priston will be the first village to benefit.

As expected BT has today confirmed that their second major trial of future G.fast broadband technology (ITU G.9701), which will initially offer speeds of up to 330Mbps (50Mbps upload) before rising to 500Mbps over the next decade, has begun in Gosforth (Newcastle, North England).

The Country Land and Business Association, which represents thousands of landowners across England and Wales, has given BT a bit of unexpected support by warning Ofcom not to split the telco from control of their national network (Openreach) as it would create too much of a “distraction“.

Chinese firm Huawei and Japanese telecoms giant NTT DOCOMO have conducted the world’s first large-scale field trial of next generation 5G mobile broadband technology using the sub-6GHz band, which has been able to achieve an impressive peak speed of 3.6Gbps (Gigabits per second).

Sharon White, the CEO of Ofcom, told an event at the LSE’s Hong Kong Theatre last night that she wants to drive more “competition” into the market and rejects greater “consolidation“. White also raised concern about rising prices and said that too many people still suffer “poor or no access” to modern mobile and broadband.

The Bristol City Council (BCC) in South West England has given its approval to a 20-year deal with two alternative network ISPs, Net Support UK and ITS Technology Group, which will see the city’s fibre optic BNET broadband infrastructure being used to help connect local premises.
