After a long wait Openreach (BT) has today revealed the tentative wholesale cost of their new ‘up to’ 330Mbps capable G.fast broadband technology for UK homes and businesses, which from January 2017 will be piloted in 17 locations across the country (reaching 138,000 UK premises by the end of March 2017).

The telecoms regulator has today hit “failing” UK mobile and broadband provider Vodafone with a “record” fine of £4,625,000 after they were found to have breached a series of consumer complaint handing rules. Ofcom’s investigation of the case uncovered a variety of serious mis-selling, inaccurate billing and poor complaints handling procedures.

Telecoms giant BT has announced a new partnership with Intersection (LinkNYC) and advertising company Primesight that will enable them to deploy free “ultrafast” (up to 1Gbps) public WiFi, free UK landline / mobile phone calls and a range of other digital services across London’s major high streets.

After several years’ of development the Wi-Fi Alliance has this week begun to certify the first hardware (routers etc.) to use its final WiGig 802.11ad (60GHz) standard, which can push data rates of up to 8Gbps over a WiFi wireless network. But you need to be within 10 metres for it to work properly.
