The boss of UK Broadband, sibling of Hong Kong telecoms giant PCCW, has called upon the government and telecoms operators to adopt a more “joined-up” network design to achieve their superfast broadband goals and suggested that we should be aiming to deliver download speeds of “at least 30Mbps” (same as the EU target for 2020).

Mobile operator Everything Everywhere (Orange UK and T-Mobile) has today announced the launch of a third new network and new brand, EE (4GEE), to support the forthcoming launch of its new superfast 4G (LTE) 1800MHz based mobile broadband and fixed line “fibre broadband” ISP services.

Everything Everywhere (Orange UK and T-Mobile), O2, Vodafone and Three UK have agreed, under direct pressure from the government, to stall any legal challenges that could have resulted in further delays to Ofcom’s auction of the superfast “4G” mobile broadband compatible 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands.

Mobile operator O2 UK (Telefonica) has given notice of its plan to lodge a challenge at the Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT), which aims to halt Everything Everywhere (Orange UK and T-Mobile) from an early deployment of superfast “4G” Mobile Broadband services over their existing 1800MHz radio spectrum.

Mobile group Everything Everywhere (Orange UK and T-Mobile) has agreed to sell some of its prized 1800MHz radio spectrum to rival Three UK, which could theoretically allow the operator to launch its own superfast “4G” (Long Term Evolution) based Mobile Broadband services before the end of 2012.

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today ignored threats of legal action from rival mobile operators by allowing T-Mobile and Orange UK (Everything Everywhere) to deploy superfast “4G” Mobile Broadband services over their existing 1800MHz radio spectrum.

Ofcom, the UK communications regulator, has today unveiled its final proposal for the forthcoming auction of “4G” (Long Term Evolution) based superfast Mobile Broadband spectrum (800MHz and 2.6GHz). But sadly, due to constant bickering between operators, the first bids won’t take place until “early 2013“.

Global telecoms giant Ericsson has released its second Traffic and Market Report, which reveals that global Mobile Broadband subscriptions will grow from 1 Billion in 2011 to 5 Billion in 2017 when 85% of the world’s population will have internet coverage via 3G services and 50% via superfast “4G” (Long Term Evolution) technology.
