The Advertising Standards Authority has banned an email, television and press advert for BT’s broadband and TV bundles after several recipients complained that they misleadingly promoted the offer of a “FREE” YouView (IPTV) set-top-box worth £299. Crucially though a £49 activation charge applied.

Internet provider BE Broadband (aka – BE Unlimited), which is now owned by BSkyB (Sky Broadband), has been told by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that they can no longer claim to offer “unlimited downloads” after the ISP threatened to disconnect customers that make heavy use of their service.

A complaint from Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has prompted the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to ban a national press advert for TalkTalk’s triple-play Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone and TV services after it misleadingly claimed to be “Britain’s best value” package.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned PlusNet’s recent Yorkshire-themed TV advert for its half price broadband offer (“All broadband’s half off“) after several viewers complained that the discount was, contrary to the promotional wording, not available to everybody.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned several ads for TalkTalk’s YouView TV product, which misleadingly described the set-top-box as being “free” despite a £50 install fee. The watchdog also banned an ad for T-Mobile’s (EE) £36 Full Monty Plan after it promoted “Unlimited internet” despite a Traffic Management policy.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has once again banned a press advert for Virgin Media’s bundles after BT complained that one of their promotions misleadingly implied that tv, broadband and calls could all be had for £3.50 a month when in fact they couldn’t.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has, following two complaints by rival Sky Broadband (BSkyB), told cable operator Virgin Media not to “misleadingly” claim that their service was “unlimited” and with “no caps” if they also imposed restrictions (e.g. Traffic Management) that were “more than moderate“.

The results from 846 respondents to ISPreview.co.uk’s latest monthly reader poll have found that 89% still feel that big broadband ISPs are continuing to mislead consumers with their advertising practices, especially in regards to promotions of internet service speed and pricing. Time for tougher rules perhaps.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld fifteen complainants against BT’s website based broadband availability checker service because it often delivered unreliable “provisional” coverage dates for their UK superfast BTInfinity (FTTC) service and was thus deemed “likely to mislead“.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has today begun enforcing new guidelines that are designed to tackle misleading promotions of Mobile Broadband speed. The changes were first introduced earlier this year for fixed line ISPs (here) but have now also been extended to mobile operators.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has once again banned an advert for Virgin Media’s service after one of its circular promotions (e.g. spam letters) was deemed to have misleadingly claimed that an individual’s street had been “connected” to its “state-of-the-art fibre optic cable“.
