Broadband ISP Plusnet UK Stops Providing BT Sport TV Service

As expected (here), UK ISP Plusnet this week confirmed that they’re no longer providing BT Sport as a part of their existing customer home broadband packages, which means you won’t be able to access the service, including the BT Sport App or via a Sky TV set-top-box.

In an unsurprising move, BT has confirmed that their legacy Line Rental Saver (LRS) discount is to finally be “withdrawn from sale” on 21st July 2023. The service gave a special discount to home broadband customers who separately pre-paid for their phone line rental a year in advance.

Survey Claims 53% of UK Broadband Users Suffer Connection Woes UPDATE

A new survey of 3,975 UK people who had a contract for a home broadband ISP in December 2022 and January 2023, which was conducted by Which?, has found that 53% have experienced “connection issues” in the past year (e.g. very slow speeds, connection drop-outs etc.) and Sky Broadband were the worst offender.

Numis Report Warns BT Underplaying the Risk from UK AltNets

A new report from investment bank Numis, which was authored by analyst John Karidis, has today reiterated its sell recommendation on BT (inc. Openreach) and warned that the national broadband giant “keeps underplaying the risk” from rival alternative networks to its consumer and business units.

2023 H1 – UK Full Fibre Broadband Coverage Rises to 53 Percent

The latest biannual summary of UK fixed broadband coverage for H1 2023 has found that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have surged to reach 52.77% of premises (up from 45.13% in H2 2022) and 76.22% are within reach of “gigabit” speeds (up from 72.66%).
