The National Audit Office (NAO), which is responsible for scrutinising the value for money of public spending in the United Kingdom, has described the government’s national £1.2bn superfast broadband roll-out scheme as “moving forward late“, lacking “strong competition to protect public value” and being underfunded.

A new study from global financial services firm Deloitte has unsurprisingly revealed a big Digital Speed Divide between the performance of broadband internet connections across the North West of England, which it fears could damage business. Speeds were found to vary between a low of 3.94Mbps and a peak of 60Mbps+.

Customers who take one of the unlimited usage based fixed line BT Business Broadband packages should note that the ISP has quietly increased its monthly prices by £1 (+vat). Similarly the one-off router delivery charge has also been increased from £6 up to £8.

BT Group has today selected the current CEO of its BTRetail division, Gavin Patterson, to take over the running of its telecoms and broadband empire from September 2013 after Ian Livingston decided that a role in government as the ‘Minister of State for Trade and Investment’ would apparently be more interesting.

But happily the ISP is not dead and will continue to operate.

Internet provider TitanADSL has suddenly discontinued its web hosting and email services because it only had a small number of users and thus wasn’t economically viable. On top of that the ISP has also confirmed that its fixed line broadband services will shortly be merged with another company.

A new survey of 500 small and medium sized businesses in the United Kingdom, which was conducted by AXA Business Insurance, has revealed that one in four were unaware of the publicly funded BDUK scheme to help make superfast broadband ISP connections available to 90% of the country by the end of 2015.
