CityFibre Begins FTTP Broadband Rollout to Homes in Chester

CityFibre UK has today announced that construction has started on their new £23 million project to deploy a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the Cathedral City of Chester in Cheshire (England), which is home to around 80,000 people.

Full fibre operator Cityfibre has announced that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has finally started to go live for customers in the south coast city of Portsmouth (Hampshire, UK), which is being supported by UK ISP partner Giganet. The rollout itself reflects an investment of £32m.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk has today announced that they’ve started selling ‘Future Fibre‘ packages on Cityfibre’s new gigabit-speed capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in four UK cities and towns including Aberdeen, Bolton, Milton Keynes and Peterborough. Prices start at £32 per month for 147Mbps (symmetric).

Cityfibre has announced that the first homes have now connected to their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network in the city of Inverness (Scotland), which began its £20m rollout last June 2020 and has so far completed in the Culloden, Balloch and Smithton areas of the city.

But they haven’t completely abandoned the idea.

CityFibre has this week announced the start of a £115 million project to deploy their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the South Yorkshire city of Sheffield, which will take 5-years to complete. The first civil engineering is due to commence next Monday (8th Feb).

Ofcom Details New UK Broadband ISP Switching Process for 2022

As expected the UK telecoms regulator has today published detailed proposals for a new simpler “one touch” switching process for all broadband customers, which from December 2022 will make it easier for consumers to switch between ISPs on physically separate networks (e.g. Openreach’s full fibre to Cityfibre or Virgin Media etc.).
