CityFibre UK has today announced that their long-held plan to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the Kent (England) town of Sittingbourne, which is expected to cost £9.5 million, will finally get underway “later this year“.

CityFibre UK has today announced that they’ve started the construction phase of their £30m project to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the Greater Manchester town of Rochdale (England), which is being supported by civil engineering firm Network PLUS.

CityFibre has announced that they’ve begun to extend their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the large suburban village and civil parish of Binley Woods in Warwickshire, which is expected to cost somewhere around £500,000 – making it one of the operator’s smallest builds to date.

Budget conscious UK ISP TalkTalk appears to have begun a new programme trial, which is giving “some” existing customers a free automatic upgrade to full fibre broadband – provided they don’t already have such a package and are covered by the new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

Network builder CityFibre has today announced that they will begin upgrading their national UK GPON based full fibre broadband ISP network to harness XGS-PON technology from April 2023, which will enable them to offer symmetrical download and upload speeds of up to 10Gbps – Gigabits per second (9.953Gbps to be exact).

Vodafone UK has just published their latest Q1 FY23 results, which reveals that their fixed broadband base grew again to total 1,072,000 customers (up by 22k in the quarter vs 59k in Q4 FY22) and their mobile base also increased to total 17.22m (up by 115k vs 51k in the previous quarter).

The Competition Appeal Tribunal‘s (CAT) decision last week to reject CityFibre’s appeal against Ofcom’s approval process for Openreach’s “Equinox” price cut (here), which slashed the cost of the incumbent’s wholesale FTTP broadband products for UK ISPs, may not have been a total loss for the alternative network operator.

The Competition Appeal Tribunal has today “dismissed” CityFibre’s attempt to challenge Ofcom’s approval of Openreach’s (BT) “Equinox” offer (here), which introduced a “major” price cut (details) at wholesale to their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband products for UK ISPs. But the operator is far from giving up.

Kent-based UK ISP Vfast (Orbital Net) has announced that they’ve finally connected their first customer – Paul from Gillingham – to CityFibre’s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Medway, which follows last year’s announcement (here) of their plan to join the platform.

Popular UK residential and business ISP iDNET has today confirmed that they’ll soon be selling broadband packages via FullFibre Limited‘s (Fibre Heroes) new network, which looks set to complement the services that they already offer via both Openreach (BT) and CityFibre’s respective national infrastructure.

Network builder CityFibre has today announced that they’re piloting enhanced “virtualisation capabilities” for business ISPs across their UK full fibre broadband and Ethernet network, which among other things includes the interesting addition of Universal Customer Premises Equipment (uCPE).

UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP), which until now has historically only sold fixed broadband and phone services via Openreach’s national network, has today become the latest internet provider to announced that they’ll soon be launching a range of ultrafast and gigabit speed packages via CityFibre’s full fibre network.

Network builder CityFibre has reached a new wayleave (access) agreement with Yorkshire Housing, a charitable housing association that manages nearly 20,000 homes across Yorkshire (England), which will enable them to deploy their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to “thousands of tenants“.

The shortage of skilled UK fibre broadband engineers is quite a well-known problem, which has resulted in a number of network buildings and ISPs establishing their own training centres. CityFibre has now moved to do the same in South Yorkshire, which is being done in co-operation with civil engineering partner O’Connor Utilities.

Alternative broadband providers are about to begin a new trial that will, for the first time, grant their engineers the ability to replace an existing copper dropwire on an existing Openreach pole (telegraph pole) with a new optical fibre one for gigabit-capable broadband, albeit only under certain circumstances.

The village and civil parish of Yaxley in Cambridgeshire (England), which is home to a population of over 9,000, has just become one of CityFibre’s smallest builds after they confirmed their plan to invest £2m as part of their ongoing deployment of gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP technology.

Vodafone today claims to have “overtaken” BT to become the UK’s “largest full fibre broadband provider” via their Gigafast Broadband plans, but they aren’t referring to customer figures (1 million). Instead, this reflects the fact that they now sell gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) plans via both Openreach and CityFibre.
