Scotland ISP Fibrecast, which has previously deployed their own ultrafast wireless and fibre broadband network around the City Quay area of Dundee and the Airport business park, has today announced that they’ll also be selling services to homes over CityFibre’s new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the city.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk, which back in October 2021 signed a contract to harness Netgem‘s pay TV platform (here), has begun to offer a related “TV 4K Box” device for certain customers as part of a “test“. But it’s currently only available to those on their “Future Fibre” (FTTP) broadband plans (Openreach, CityFibre etc.).

Uncertainty continues to cloud CityFibre’s planned UK rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the large towns of Halifax and Barnsley in Yorkshire (England), which were recently disrupted after the operator’s chosen contractor – NMCN – fell into administration.

CityFibre has this week carried out their earlier threats by launching an appeal via the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) to challenge Ofcom’s recent approval of Openreach’s “Equinox” offer (here), which introduced a “major” price cut (details) to the incumbents Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband products for UK ISPs.

Nokia and CityFibre have teamed up in Glasgow (Scotland) to conduct the UK’s first successful demonstration of a trial that used their full fibre 25G PON kit to fuel backhaul capacity for a 5G mobile (mobile broadband) network, which was used for a holographic call between buildings, teleoperation of a robotic arm and 8K video streaming.

Leicester-based UK ISP Gigabit Networks, which previously only seemed to focus on business connectivity across the Midlands, has now launched into the residential market by hopping on to CityFibre’s new £45m gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the city of Derby (Derbyshire, England).

CityFibre aim to boost their £60m rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the Lancashire seaside town of Blackpool by joining the Cooperative Network Infrastructure (CNI) scheme, which enables commercial re-use of existing local authority owned cable ducts and fibre.

Fibre optic network builder CityFibre, which aims to cover around 8 million UK premises with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network by the end of 2025, has partnered with Ciena to deploy its “first” 800Gbps capable backbone wavelength ring network across 29 cities and towns.

CityFibre has today announced that they’ve committed £21 million to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to homes and businesses in the Lincolnshire (England) city of Lincoln, which is home to a total population of around 95,000 (including the borough area).

Low-cost UK ISP TalkTalk appears to have quietly launched a new “Fibre 1Gbps” broadband service as part of their CityFibre and Openreach based Future Fibre packages, but at present it only seems to be available in Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) areas (CF areas are still limited to 500Mbps) and costs just £49.

CityFibre has today committed £32m to support the rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across both the North Yorkshire (England) seaside town of Redcar and the large port town of Hartlepool in County Durham. The move should complement their existing Tees Valley build in Middlesbrough.

Mobile and broadband ISP Vodafone UK (Gigafast Broadband) has today announced that their full fibre packages will now become available to order across CityFibre’s entire Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is a marked improvement from the 12 cities and towns that they initially launched with.

Analysis by Thinkbroadband (TBB), which maintains an independent database of broadband network coverage, has called into question CityFibre’s recent claim to have covered 1 million UK premises with their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network.

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) last night unveiled the winners of their 23rd annual 2021 internet industry and broadband awards, which among other things saw B4RN walk away with the award for “Best Rural ISP“, while CommunityFibre scooped both the “Best Consumer ISP” and “Best Ultrafast ISP” awards.
