The Information Commissioner’s Office has warned mobile operator EE that consumers have become tired of their nuisance sales calls and marketing texts, so much so that the regulator has even expressed concern about their “compliance with the law“. But there’s better news for BSkyB, which is now off the ICO’s poop list.

Eurotunnel has today confirmed that Le Shuttle and High Speed Train commuters travelling along the Channel Tunnel (North Tunnel) route, which links the UK to France, can now access 2G and 3G based mobile phone and mobile broadband connectivity via EE and Vodafone (O2 will soon follow) thanks to a new fibre optic based GSP-P retransmission system. 4G is coming soon.

EE has made their superfast “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) packages, which offer download speeds of up to 76Mbps and currently benefit from a reduced one-off connection fee of £25, even cheaper by extending the existing 3 months half-price promotion to last for 6 months (hard luck if you signed up last month).

Mobile operator and ISP EE UK has recorded one of its best quarters of fixed line broadband subscriber growth after it added more than +19,000 customers in Q1-2014 to total 745,000 (up from +12k in Q4-2013). Meanwhile their 4G mobile customer base grew from 1,996,000 in Q4-2013 to reach 2.9m now (+889k in the quarter).

EE (4GEE) has announced that its “superfast” 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband (4GEE) network has now arrived in a total of 200 cities and towns (12 new additions went live this week), which means that their related network coverage (population) of the United Kingdom has expanded to 72%.

Mobile operator and ISP EE has called on the UK communications regulator, Ofcom, to remove the “unjustified and discriminatory” charge for BT’s Phonebook, which gets passed on to consumers via the price they pay for standard fixed phone line rental.

Mobile operator EE (4GEE) has announced that its 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband network, which currently reaches more than 70% of the UK population, is now available from another 12 towns. Coverage has also been improved on “key routes” between Edinburgh – Glasgow and Cardiff – Swansea.

BT and EE’s home broadband packages generated the highest level of customer gripes during the final quarter of 2013. The data, which comes from Ofcom’s quarterly consumer complaints report, also revealed that TalkTalk were the worst for fixed phone providers, while Orange UK came bottom for mobile and BT also failed at Pay TV.

Mobile and Internet provider EE will today expand the half price promotion on their unlimited superfast “Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) packages to cover the first 6 months of service. In addition, the one-off connection fee has also been reduced from £50 to just £25.

BT has today signed a multi-year agreement that will allow them to build a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform and services using EE’s 2G, 3G and 4G based network in the United Kingdom, which also means they’ll be “carefully” parting ways with their existing MVNO partner Vodafone UK.

News Flash – Consumers like to be fully informed when a service they pay for isn’t working properly. Sadly this message is clearly one that some telecoms and Internet providers seem to have trouble grasping, as demonstrated by the recent outage of EE’s mobile network across a significant chunk of the United Kingdom.

Mobile operator EE has announced that their customers in the United Kingdom will now also be able to benefit from “superfast” 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband connectivity when roaming around France and Spain, which will be offered at no extra cost over their existing charges. More countries to follow.

RootMetrics has today published their H2 2013 Rootscore Report, which uses data collected from 840,000 network and speed tests conducted across the United Kingdom to reveal which mobile operator is best for Internet access, calls and texting. Suffice to say that EE topped the table in all respects, while Vodafone was almost always at the bottom.

Ofcom has launched an own-initiative investigation into EE (also trading as Orange UK and T-Mobile), which will look at whether or not the mobile and Internet provider has “failed to comply” with the regulators code for consumer complaints handling (General Condition 14.4).

Mobile operator EE (4GEE) has picked Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) instead of existing partner Huawei to help them roll-out their “superfast” 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband network to “the next 25% of the UK population in rural areas and small towns.”

Existing customers of EE’s mobile network, including T-Mobile and Orange UK subscribers, can now take their fixed line unlimited Home Broadband (up to 17Mbps) and free calls package from just £2 per month for the first 12 months (plus line rental from £11 pre-paid or £15.40 monthly).

Telecoms operator EE has released its latest Q4-2013 financial results and revealed that their fixed line Home Broadband subscriber base added +12k new customers in the quarter to total 726,000 (up from +10k added in Q3), while their 4G based Mobile Broadband users went from 1.2m in Q3 to 1.996m now.
