A seemingly new alternative network provider called Vale Communications Infrastructure (part of the Vale Group) has sprung up with a plan to deploy a new full fibre (10Gbps capable XGS-PON) broadband and wireless network, which is targeting coverage of 1.2 million premises passed – across 19 towns – by the end of 2025.

The Milton Keynes-based Complete Technology Group (CTG), which is a UK landlord advisory service that also runs Complete Fibre (i.e. they install full fibre broadband infrastructure into large residential buildings / MDUs), has announced that it will “withdraw its current service offer” from the market over the “coming months“.

The Powys County Council (Cyngor Sir Powys) in mid-Wales has this afternoon announced that they’ve awarded a broadband roll-out contract to the BT Group (Openreach), which will connect 24 “hard to reach sites” to a new full fibre network and will also benefit at least 78 more that are on route to them (possibly rising to as many as 119).

The long-running 2Africa project, which is in the process of building a 45,000km long subsea (submarine) fibre optic cable between the United Kingdom and most of coastal Africa, has confirmed that telecoms giant Vodafone has just helped to land the new cable in England at a site in Bude (Cornwall).

A new company called IOEMA Fibre has announced plans to build a new 1,371km long repeatered subsea fibre optic cable between the United Kingdom and several neighbouring countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway. The total “minimum” capacity of this will reach a blistering 1.3 Petabits per second!

Internet provider Vorboss, which is investing £300m via Fern Trading to deploy a 100Gbps full fibre network (Ethernet and broadband) – dedicated to business – across central London, has been recognized for the third year in a row by the City of London Corporation (CoLC) as part of the Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme, for delivering “exemplary” work.

The North Wales Economic Ambition Board (NWEAB) has approved the business case for their new 4G+ project, which is more widely investing £8.9m from the North Wales Growth Deal in order to improve the availability of mobile voice and data services, as well as full fibre broadband, to key commercial sites and transport networks.

New data from telecoms analyst firm Point Topic has revealed that, at the end of Q1 2024, nearly 7 million UK premises had access to two or more full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP networks, falling to just 0.8m for three or more networks. Some 64.7% of UK premises (20.7m) are now covered by such a network, while Altnets are still seeing good growth.
