Alternative network provider WarwickNet (CableCom) has announced that they’ve expanded their superfast and ultrafast broadband / Ethernet platform to businesses at 32 sites in a single month (168 total), serving more than 5,500 business premises across the UK (1,400 active customers).

The FTTH Council Europe has revised downward last year’s Comsof estimate for the cost of deploying ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) based broadband networks across the EU (currently this still includes the UK) by 2025, which makes it €137 billion (£116bn) instead of €156bn (£132bn).

UK Internet provider TalkTalk Business has today confirmed that they will be one of the first ISPs to adopt Openreach’s (BT) proposed ‘Dark Fibre Access‘ product, which follows a key ruling by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that will affect how the service is priced.

Cityfibre has announced that two further large towns in Berkshire (England) – Slough and Maidenhead – will be the next on their list to benefit from the deployment of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband and Ethernet network for local businesses.

The Scottish Road Works Commissioner has fined fibre optic network builder Cityfibre £35,000 due to a “number of serious failures to comply with road works legislation in Scotland,” such as the one that occurred in Edinburgh (here) after a contractor sat exposed in a manhole on a busy street.

Fans of accurate definitions may be pleased to note that the Advertising Standards Authority has finally agreed to review the often confusing way in which ISPs promote “fibre broadband” packages. This can be applied to both slower hybrid fibre (FTTC) and ultrafast full fibre optic (FTTH/P) services.

The £700K publicly funded (loan) Aylesbury Vale Broadband project in rural Buckinghamshire has pulled out of their ultrafast FTTP/H roll-out in Great Brickhil after Gigaclear confirmed that they were about to start work. Meanwhile the two are set to go head-to-head in the village of Soulbury.

Cityfibre has announced that the construction of their pure fibre optic ultrafast broadband and Ethernet network in the city of Glasgow (Scotland) has now begun moving westwards into the Finnieston area, where a number of local businesses have expressed an interest in receiving their service.

Cumbria-focused ISP Solway Communications has deployed a new 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband network to serve businesses on the Parkhouse Business Park in Carlisle, which sits roughly 1/2 mile from Junction 44 of the M6.

Cityfibre has suspended one of their civil works contractors, KNNS, in the city of Edinburgh (Scotland). The action occurred after a dashcam video emerged that showed one of their fibre optic engineers sitting exposed in a manhole on a busy 30MPH street, with only two small traffic cones for protection.

Metronet UK, which has built its own hybrid fibre optic and wireless data network in several urban areas around the United Kingdom, has today acquired rival ISP Venus Business Communications. Venus operates a 10Gbps Dark Fibre network that covers “all of central London and the City“.
