The county of Cheshire in England, specifically the Connecting Cheshire project that is working to deploy “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services to reach the vast majority of the region by summer 2017, has confirmed that clawback from BT will return £3.4m to help further boost coverage.

BT’s Consumer division has once again reduced the prices of their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband and superfast ‘up to’ 38Mbps BTInfinity packages, with both now starting at £5 and £10 per month respectively for the first 12 months of service. Sainsbury’s vouchers worth up to £100 are also included.

The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK initiative, which is primarily working with BT to make fixed line superfast broadband (24Mbps+) services available to 95% of the United Kingdom by 2017/18, has ended Q3 2015 by confirming that 3,311,843 extra premises have now benefited from the effort.

The Onlincolnshire project, which is working to roll-out FTTC/P based “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) services to “at least” 89% of all premises in Lincolnshire (England) by April 2016, has confirmed that clawback from BT will result in £4.6m being returned to help further boost coverage.

The incumbent East Yorkshire (England) telecoms operator, KC, has confirmed that 5,000 homes and businesses in East Hull have just been added to their on-going “Lightstream” fibre optic broadband (FTTP/C) roll-out project, which aims to reach more than 105,000 premises passed by March 2017.

After the recent cyber-attack TalkTalk, which dubiously skipped their previous Q2 2015 report (here), has today published a financial update for Q3 2015 (calendar) and revealed that they’ve lost -80K broadband subscribers in the past 6 months to make for a total of 4.1 million (on-net).

The Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire scheme in England has revealed a more detailed roll-out plan for their second state aid supported “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) contract with BTOpenreach, which will extend the service to another 17,000 premises by Spring 2018 (98% coverage).

The Superfast North Yorkshire scheme in England, which is working with BTOpenreach to make FTTC/P based superfast broadband (24Mbps+) services available to around 90% of local premises by late 2016, looks to have finally agreed some solid details for a future expansion to reach 95%.

The Better Broadband for Norfolk project in England has become the latest BT and Broadband Delivery UK programme based Phase One contract to complete its roll-out ahead of schedule, which means that 83% of local premises should now be able to order a faster “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) service.

BT has posted their latest Q3-2015 results (calendar), which reveals that their retail business now has a total of 7,879,000 broadband subscribers (up by +82K vs +83K in Q2) and 3,438,000 of those are taking their FTTC dominated BTInfinity “fibre broadband” (up by +212K in Q3 vs +217K in Q2).

The Digital Scotland scheme, which is working alongside BT to roll-out “high-speed fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) networks to 85% of premises in Scotland by the end of 2015/16 and 95% by the end of March 2018, has today named the next 40 communities (20,000 premises) to benefit.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and WiredScore have this week introduced a new “Connectivity Ratings Scheme,” which awards big buildings in the city with a rating of either Platinum, Gold, Silver or Certified (aka – Bronze) depending upon the quality of its broadband and Internet connectivity.

UK ISP BT has increased the included Sainsbury’s gift cards on their packages to £75 for standard broadband (up to 17Mbps) and £125 on their superfast up to 38-76Mbps capable BTFinity (FTTC) services, but the one-off “fibre activation fee” has jumped from £35 to £39 (free for Infinity 2 packages).

At the end of last year the Connecting Cheshire project in England signed a new £6m Superfast Extension Programme contract to bring BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services to a further 10,000 premises by summer 2017 (here). Work on this has now started, with a rough roll-out plan also being published.

Forget BT’s plan to deploy “ultrafast” 300-500Mbps capable G.fast broadband technology to 10 million UK premises by 2020 (here). Today the operator has joined with Alcatel-Lucent to test future XG.FAST (G.fast2) technology, which under lab conditions has just pushed aggregate speeds of 5.6Gbps over 35 metres of copper cable.
