Three of the UK’s most pioneering providers’ of ultrafast “full fibre” (FTTP/H) broadband – Gigaclear, Cityfibre and Hyperoptic – have today called on the Advertising Standards Authority to stop rivals from using the term “fibre” to advertise services delivered over slower copper wires.

Fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has today agreed a new supply deal with residential property developer A2Dominion, which means that homes across their housing portfolio in London and the South East of England will soon gain access to the provider’s ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB/P) network.

Thousands of extra homes in the county of Wiltshire (England) look set to benefit after the local authority awarded a total of £3 million in extra public funding to BT and Gigaclear, which are both tasked with expanding the reach of their 100Mbps+ capable “fibre broadband” networks into rural areas.

Openreach (BT) and Huawei have today offered a glimpse of a “hyperfast” future by conducting a live demo of their Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP/H) “consumer broadband” network running at an eye watering 100Gbps (Gigabits per second), but you won’t be able to get this at home anytime soon.

Residents of two rural villages – Leck (Lancashire) and Ingleton (North Yorkshire) – were left without access to B4RN’s 1Gbps community built Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network on Friday afternoon (2nd June @ around 4:30pm) after vandals dug up and cut one of their core cable ducts.

The BT Group has released their latest quarterly report (Q1 2017 calendar), which saw their retail broadband base reach a total of 9,276,000 subscribers (up by 29K vs 83K in Q4 2016) and Openreach has begun a consultation on the “potential benefits and costs of a large-scale FTTP deployment.“

Internet provider TalkTalk has today published their latest full year results to 31st March 2017, which saw them bleed fewer on-net broadband subscribers (-20k in H2 vs -29k in H1) in the period to total 3,947,000 and 25% of those take their FTTC based “fibre broadband“.

The Aylesbury Vale Broadband project in rural Buckinghamshire (England) has confirmed that it hopes to launch a 1Gbps package on their Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network by December 2017 and that they could expand into neighbouring counties.
