Pure fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic, which offers home broadband speeds of up to 1000Mbps across growing parts of several major UK cities (particularly London), has introduced a “no contract” option for new customers who take one of their unlimited usage Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based packages.

Fibre optic ISP Gigaclear, fresh from picking up the state aid fuelled contracts for Epping Forest (Essex) and rural Gloucestershire, has today picked up another win by securing a deal to roll-out their 1000Mbps FTTP broadband network to parts of remote rural Berkshire in England. Call Flow Solutions will also deploy some slower FTTC.

Contractors who appear to be working for Sky (Sky Broadband) have been spotted building new telegraph poles and fibre optic cable ducting around the civil parish village of Woodville, Midway and the Swadlincote areas of Derbyshire in England. Some 5,000 local homes will benefit.

The community built B4RN project, which is rolling out a 1000Mbps capable fibre optic broadband (FTTH) network to thousands of premises in rural Lancashire in England (inc. parts of Yorkshire and Cumbria), has uploaded an interesting new documentary film that charts their history and on-going work.

The Herefordshire County Council are working to deliver an alternative “ultrafast broadband” solution to help businesses within the Hereford Enterprise Zone at Rotherwas, which can already receive expensive leased lines or cheaper FTTC connectivity from BT; but apparently neither of those are good enough.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has today launched a “major drive” to boost broadband connectivity in the capital, although it’s mostly the same stuff as we saw being announced last year. At least there’s now a map to depict just how bad the situation is, especially in the city centre.

Internet provider Call Flow Solutions has won an extension to their on-going pilot of a new hybrid fibre optic and wireless broadband network in rural Hampshire (England), which means that around 200 additional premises in the small village of Privett should also benefit from the service.

The CEO of the community funded and built B4RN network (Barry Forde), which is currently rolling out an ultrafast Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTH) network to homes across remote parts of rural Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria in England, has today been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours (2015).

Cybermoor Networks has launched a new “community share offer” in order to help it raise the £150,000 needed in order to roll-out a new ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTH/P) and fixed wireless broadband network around the South Tyne Valley in West Northumberland (England).

The B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North) project has spawned another spin-off scheme called LA6B4RN, which is proposing to roll-out a 1000Mbps capable pure fibre optic (FTTH) broadband network to connect every property in the rural villages of Masongill, Ireby, Leck, Cowan Bridge and Overtown (Lancashire, England).

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today extended their existing relationship with utility infrastructure provider GTC by announcing a joint plan to make a new 300Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network and TV services available to homes at a popular Bellway Homes development (Kings Mead) in the large town of Reading (Berkshire, England).

It’s officially a shade over two years since the community built and funded B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North) project first put shovels to the ground and began building their own 1000Mbps capable fibre optic broadband network to connect remote parts of rural Lancashire (England). But with over 1,000 premises now live, there’s still plenty more to come.

Pure fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has announced that their 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP/B) network has just reached residential boats in London’s South Dock marina (including South Dock and Greenland Dock), which we guess makes it a “Fibre-to-the-Boat” service. Ho ho.

A previously unknown operator called TrueSpeed Communications has announced a new deal with Hibernia Networks, which will help it to roll-out a 10Gbps (Gigabits per second) capable pure fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network to cover homes and businesses in parts of North East Somerset and possibly Wiltshire (England).
