Going nowhere fast. The Digital Dales (Fibre GarDen) project, which had been hoping to deploy a 100Mbps FTTP broadband network to 580 premises in the rural Cumbria (England) villages of Garsdale and Dentdale, has today ground to a halt over funding problems.

BTOpenreach has told ISPreview.co.uk that their premium “ultrafast” 330Mbps capable Fibre-on-Demand (FoD / FTTPoD) broadband service has now become available for all exchanges in Wales (albeit only for those who can already receive an FTTC line), but you still can’t order it.

TrueSpeed Communications (formerly Wansdyke Telecom), which earlier this year pledged to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable pure fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network to parts of rural North East Somerset and possibly Wiltshire, has announced that Priston will be the first village to benefit.

As expected BT has today confirmed that their second major trial of future G.fast broadband technology (ITU G.9701), which will initially offer speeds of up to 330Mbps (50Mbps upload) before rising to 500Mbps over the next decade, has begun in Gosforth (Newcastle, North England).

The Hampshire Superfast Broadband project in England has revealed a roll-out plan (locations and time-scales) for their new extension contract with BT, which will push superfast broadband (24Mbps+) out to another 34,500 premises (“at least” 95% of the local population) by “mid 2019 or earlier“.

As expected TalkTalk has confirmed that the first trial customers are now live on their joint 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband network in the city of York, which is being built alongside Sky Broadband and Cityfibre. An early 2016 commercial launch has also been set.

As predicted yesterday BT has today announced a new roll-out plan for delivering faster broadband (at least 5-10Mbps) connections to the hardest to reach final 5% of premises in the United Kingdom (mostly rural homes) and an aim to push “ultrafast” 300-500Mbps G.fast to 10 million premises.
