Broadband ISP Virgin Media UK Sees 285 Percent Rise in Phishing Threats

Broadband, phone and TV provider Virgin Media (O2) and their security partner, Akamai, have this morning warned that they’ve seen a 285% rise in phishing attempts this year. This figure has jumped to a huge 232,365 average new phishing threat entries to their threat intelligence feeds each day between April to June 2025.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media), which just spent £13m to secure 800MHz (frequency) of 26GHz (band) spectrum and 1,000MHz of 40GHz spectrum in Ofcom’s auction of the two 5G centric millimetre wave (mmW) bands (here), has revealed that a test of the new spectrum has already delivered mobile broadband speeds of 4Gbps (4,000Mbps).

Plusnet and EE) recent move (here) by increasing their existing mid-contract pricing policy to adopt an annual rise of £4 (monthly) each April (up from £3.50). But Netflix is now included in more of their broadband and TV bundles.
