UPD Ofcom UK Report Fall in Broadband ISP Complaints – TalkTalk Still the Worst

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today revealed its latest customer complaints data for the UK’s largest fixed line broadband and mobile providers (those with a market share of +4%), which covers the second quarter (Q2-2012). Happily ISP complaints saw a sharp fall but TalkTalk remains the provider with most complaints.

The director of Informa Telecoms & Media’s global broadband and TV research, Rob Gallagher, has warned that any UK cities which win State Aid to boost their superfast broadband availability must pick “safe bet” BT to do the job or risk being left with no ISPs and “networks based on technologies that failed to keep pace with the wider market“.

Ofcom has approved BTOpenreach’s request to extend a connection price discount for its superfast broadband (FTTC) lines by two months, which cut the one-off cost from £80 to just £30 +vat when taken alongside a new phone line (WLR or MPF). Sadly only ISP customers in certain parts of England (UK) will benefit.

As expected Ofcom has today officially granted code powers to ISP Fibrewave Networks, which allows them to carry out street works as part of their plans to roll-out a new rural fibre optic based Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) superfast broadband network in Cambridgeshire (initially covering the villages of Earith, Bluntisham and Colne).

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest quarterly consumer telecoms complaints data report. Overall complaint levels have been falling since last year, although the number of people complaining about how ISPs actually handle their complaints shot up during July 2012.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest study of the United Kingdom’s average fixed line internet performance. The report, which is based on data from May 2012, reveals that the average broadband download speed has jumped from 7.6Mbps (Megabits/sec) in the last survey to reach 9Mbps now (+19%).
